3 quick questions
Hello everyone, just got my TL-S 2 weeks ago (500 miles) and I had 3 quick questions I thought y'all might know the answer too before I get the runaround from the dealer.
#1 When driving appx. 30-40 mph, my car makes a high pitched sound like hollow metal rubbing together. When it does happen, its usually when I'm not pressing the gas. My 2 guesses are that I may have a ball bearing problem in one of my wheels or its normal tire noise from having 17" wheels??? Am I crazy?
#2 Something is sliding in my trunk (during starts and stops) or in the back end and I don't know what it is. After a quick inspection, everything seems to be bolted down properly. Anyone else hear this before?
#3 When I rev the engine while in park, the revs go up but when it comes back to idle, it makes a wierd clunking sound. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance.

Yikes! Take it back to the dealership and insist on taking one of the service guys on a test drive (you drive). Cause all three of your problems to occur with him as a witness!
Good luck!

Man, you guys are confirming my worst fears. At first, I thought I was crazy, but I don't wanna take any chances with this car. I will call the dealer today.
str8acura: the noise it makes is not normal, I'm fairly certain of that. It's not the sound of the muffler that much is for certain. However, it doesn't make that noise when the car is warmed up. Very odd.
Any other ideas?

Geodosan, for #3, I don't think that it's a clunking sound...I can't really describe the sound but something is there and it only happens when it's cold outside and the engine is cold. I think that it may be something to do with condensation being in the exhaust system. If it's a real loud sound then I would ask the dealer about it otherwise I think you're fine with that.

I gave a quick call the my dealers service dept (Camco). in turn the advisor talked to one of the mechs. and they reassured me this was normal. All of this was last year about the same time.
I have driven the car since then without any problems or hints of any mech. failure.

My advice: Start tracking your car as a Lemon, it can happen to any car. You have up unitil 18,000 miles to delcare, advise them now that you may have Lemon, and make sure they list that you have made that known to them on the write-up sheet when you take the car in.
I a have Lemon (it's a VW) and the dealers are pretty good about things like this, espcially when you contact them right-a-way.

I have a hearing scheduled for mid-March and I may get either $20k cash or a new 2003 Jetta GLX, sans the taxes (I pay no taxes).
I have spent over $7,000 in repairs (which I will also try to get back) in addition to Corporate VW spending an addtional $5,000 or so in repairs too.
Almost component of this cars has broke or been repalced.
In fact in the past 1,600 miles, I have need a transmission, heater core, water pump, 4 window regulators, 2 power window motors and a oil pump, and that''s just the beggining.
Gold luck, let me know if you have any more questions. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I had forgotten about this thread.

Yo Mike, that is absolutely insane. FOUR window regulators? I hope you get every penny you deserve because they don't mind takin' from you so don't be shy about takin' from them. And Mike, not to make light of your situation, but see guys, other car makers have problems too, its not just Acura. I most definitely think Acura could have handled things waaaayyy better, but all of these guys try to get over. Nard.

I have a hearing Scheduled for March 11, 2003. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I get a new Car (Jetta GLX VR6 or GLI VR6) and ALLof my money back. Your right, they can afford it not me, you should see the list of repairs my car has had. It's insane!!
We'll thanks for check your email, I think I wll write a post taking about what took place. If VW grants me a new car, I'm not sure if I will go with the GLX VR6 (5 speed Tiptonic) or GLI VR6 (Six Speed manual).

Hey fellas:
Sorry I haven't been around. Update:
#2. Adam2000TL was right. The stupid dealer left the lugnuts in the spare tirewell. LOL.
#3. Apparently, it only makes the sound when the car is cold. I guess none of us should be revving up the engine when its cold anyways.
mp3coupe:
Issue #1 still scares me. It still makes that sound when driving 30-40 mph. My guess is that it is still tire noise... but I still fear worse. I even feel the vibration while my foot is on the the gas pedal. I also hear the noise and vibration when I'm in bumper to bumper traffic. 0-5 mph. The dealer says this is normal though.
I also asked the dealer about the noise I hear when I first leave my driveway. I have my wheel turned all the way left, and when i hit the gas, it makes a vibrating sound. The mechanic assured me this is normal... something about the ABS resetting. Of course I left as skeptical. Any ideas?
Lastly, I have been mulling over the idea of trading it in for a CL-S 6 speed (w/ NAV). Besides these small quirks, I do love the ride and ballz the car has. I'll let you guys know what I ultimately decide to do.

dude, i'm glad you searched and all.... but that guy posted 18 times in 2003 and then disappeared....I'm pretty sure you're not going to get a response.
the dealer will most likely charge a 100$ diagnostic fee.
if you're having an issue, ask us, someone will respond and then take it to a certified mechanic and get it all squared away, they'll probably look at the car for free.
