3 days for this?!?
Just made an appointment to drop my baby off at the dealer next Tuesday for these warranty work:
1) Passenger side rearview mirror going wacko. When the adjustment switch is set at the center position and in reverse gear, the mirror tilts down and keeps going. You know what it does when that happens...it keeps popping. I had to manually stop it. I believe somebody hit it while walking by my car a few weeks ago when I was down in Chicago. I hate parking in the city!
People have no regards for others' property. I, of course, did not tell the dealer about that. Good thing there are no scratches. Otherwise, they probably won't fix it under warranty.
They'll be replacing the whole module instead of just the internal components. Do you guys think I'll have any paint matching issues? He assured me that it'll match exactly like the old one. I think he's just bull$hitting me. How can they match it perfectly? I mean the old one has been in use since a year and a half ago. Salt, sun damage, etc. are definitely going to make it fade a bit. I wanted them to replace just the internal mechanisms, but he won't do it.
2) The window frame molding has been bubbling (peeling) for quite some time now. I figure since I'm getting the rearview mirror fixed, might as well get that done too. They told me this work is going to take 3 days! 3 freakin' days to peel off the old molding, and paint it? Give me a break man. Anybody else on here got that done and how long did it take for you?
This means I'll be without my baby for most of next week.
They are going to give me a loaner car and he claims that I'd get either a TL or RSX. I requested the RSX, hope I get it. I've heard some horror stories on here about dealers ripping people off with hidden rental charges. What should I look out for or ask him when I pick up the loaner if they give me a car from Enterprise instead?
Thanks for your feedback,

If you want the paint to dry properly...three days is about right.
Some body shops use an " accelarated heat lamp" that takes a few hours. However, I hear that it does not dry completely through. Only the surface.

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble..
I just had my 22,500 mile appointment and I pointed out the same bubbling on my window trim pieces and they told me three days also. He said it is a very time consuming process to remove the tape. The service guy also made a suggestion to wait another year or so until it gets much worse and then have it done under warranty. I asked him to put a mention of the bubbled trim in my file. I'd hate to run into an issue because they kept telling me to wait and then told me I waited too long.
As far as the extent of the bubbling goes, I have it EVERYWYHERE! More than half of my trim pieces have at least one small bubble in them. some of the bent areas have lots of wrinkles.

not true. if its a good paint shop and they paint the parts in a bake booth they can be dry and ready to handle all in the same day.
Not to get defensive....but do I realize that. I have friends in the business too.
He is talking about the door trim. Unless they drive the whole car into the "bake" booth, or take the doors off the frames (very unlikely), the most they will use is a heat lamp. That is not a one day deal, right ???

as far as the heat lamps it could be a 1 day deal if they use a additive to make it cure faster, but uppon closer reading, what WINDOW molding needs to be painted on our cars?
Rick Case Acura sent my car to a body shop to have said moldings peeled off and painted because of bubbling on the rear doors. I'm always very nervous about any kind of paint work, but the shop did a TREMENDOUS job -- you literally cannot tell the difference. It looks like it did the day I bought it. Got a TL-S as a loaner, too.
Just got my baby back today. Let me tell ya, the work they did was awesome. You can't tell that it's been painted. The gloss on the paint actually shines better than the POS adhesive they had on there originally. Wonder why they didn't do that in the first place. I guess painting costs more than adhesive. Does anyone know if the 2003 models have the adhesive or paint?
