I don't think it's ever been tested to the new standard. People are guessing 240-250.

yeah, 240-245hp is a safe bet. i imagine that the accessory losses wouldn't change dramatically between model years.

im going by old 04+ TL HP ratings that were at 270 before the new standards went in and now they are at 253.
so im assuming we are rated at 243.

The j32a2 was never put in the New TL, it was a different Revision. I think our numbers are nearly the same as they were before.

Its not that the engines are different, or what they are in. Its just a different way of rating the HP.

258(SAE corrected hp for 3g)/270(original hp for 3g) = .955

260 *.955 = 248.44 projected hp SAE corrected for UA5 Type S

225* .955 = 215 projected hp SAE corrected for UA5 Premium

Either way it doesnt matter because our motors wernt tested with this correction. And the only way to know would be to have it tested. And id bet no one will pull the motor out of their car to be tested that way just to find out

I agree FST,

But I have seen so many road reviews where the Type S smoked the regular 04 TL

how can this be rated lower than the gen4? I thought overall our engine was better and is the best 3.2 litre, bar none excep the M3 of course.

The J32A2 is a great engine because it produces a lot of hp/liter in stock form, and is able to use minor bolt-ons to bump it another 30-40hp. Not many engines put out almost 94 hp/liter in a naturally aspirated form.

I'd like to see some links for those road reviews though.

I think the j32 actually produces 300 crank hp, but our shitty tranny's lose 35% of the power, so whp is actually 195-200. JK. I imagine the J32 and 3G TL engines would test the same using the new SAE standards. just my guess though.

260/232 w/ a 25-27% loss puts out 190-195hp and is probable that the 3g TL does make the extra 10hp
