What are you guys with stock TL-S engines getting for top apparent speeds? Over in the RSX forum they're having this discussion with lots of moralists and their views on 'speeding' and 'safety'. Let's just talk facts here and presume open flat road used intelligently and no other cars around (unless they're in the rear-view mirror) . What does your TL-S ('99-'03) top out at if you've gotten it there or close, and at what RPM's? ![Racing](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/racing.gif)

People on here have gotten close to 155 on flat to downhill grades in the TL-S and TL-P, it just takes awhile after 130ish to climb there. I personally have only taken this car to 135 with myself in it before I had to slow down.

once again...top speed is 149, TL-P or TL-S. The guages arent very accurate over 130mph. The ECU will cut fuel to slow you down when it registers 149mph, but the electrical signal strength to the gauges, and their calibration, is usually off by that point, giving the appearance of a slower or faster speed.
Just throwing that out there

nope. Forgot where I read it, but the service guys at the local Honda/Acura dealerships agree.
Shit, I'd love to proven wrong, really. A TL realistically going 170 would be badass.

(here in the uk) i raced my friend's 4 door g35 and i got to almost 155 (tho it took forever once 5th gear kicked in @ 135). i didnt feel any limiter. but we had to slow down, as the uk version of ricers were "trying" to keep up.

Top speed of tl-p vs tl-s
The TL-P has a higher top speed? How does this happen? Any specs on their gearing... don't they use the same notorious transaxle w/ the same gears?
Technically, too, isn't fourth gear overdrive also... it is in the
newer ones since it's ratio is less (or more, depending on how you look at it) than one to one.?
Also, are there any ECU chips or programming out there which doesn't cut back on fuel at the top end?
Does the car float much over 135? My old Prelude would float so bad over 110 I'd have to either ease off or launch 'er!

Top speed TL-P or TL-S 149 or 155? A winner every time!
Adamlee, where does your info come from? You sound confident.

my tlp was clocked on radar at 157. i have since gotten it to 150 with the manual when the ecu intervened. The Tl-Ps dont have a higher topspeed. they are all limited to 149. My limiter was lazy when it kicked in on the TL-P
You might be surprised on how little time it takes. Learn to shift and hold gears longer and it doesnt take much time at all

As for the voltage to the gauges, thats common sense. Our cars are calibrated for lower-mid speeds for a more accurate reading at those speeds, since most people dont drive over 80-85mph in these cars. It makes sense that Honda would engineer is that way so people would look at their guages and be as close to accurate speeds as possible so they wouldnt get tickets a lot. Honda didn't intend for people to take a 4-door luxury sedan over 100 that often, especially not 150+, so the reading isnt nearly as accurate.

Kris what year prelude did you have? I'm assuming you got rid of it about the time you got the TL?
Ludes are great cars IMO, just heavy for what they are
