24-Hour Bird Crap Rule

24-Hour Bird Crap Rule
Doesn't always apply. My detail guy JUST clay barred and waxed my TLS for the first time. Anyway, he showed me one spot (like the size of a quarter) where some bird crap already ate through my clear coat. SH****t. I know exactly where and when I acquired that dropping (last night at about 6:30 p.m.). Since I had just washed down my car that morning (due to bird crap), I figured I would be safe not to rinse that one off since the detail guy was coming at 9 a.m. to wash the car. I was dead wrong. Apparently even though it was way less than 24 hours....the sun baked in that acid into my clear coat. Crap!!!! Literally. No one will ever see it...but I'll know it's there and there's no way to repair it (I know, there was one spot like that on the roof of my Q45...from the previous owner). Anyway, just wanted to warn all you TLS owners that today's birds must be eating some serious junk because their crap is even stronger I was told that seagulls crap is even more damaging....an FYI for those of us that live near the water.
I'm off to 'lick my wounds' now. At least the rest of the car looks fantastic with the clay bar and it's first wax!

Yeah. Those bombs really hurt. I'd try to clean it as soon as I see one. Try not to rub on a dried one; otherwise the paint will likely get scratches. I usually use a very damped tissue / napkin to "soak" it for about 5 minutes before attempting removing it.

Correct! If you live within 50-100 miles of salt water, those birds that feed and drink from the ocean will kill your car. You've got to get that stuff off fast. Inland birds don't seem to be as bad. I've never had a paint problem with any of my cars in regards to bird poop (and I don't even rush to clean it off) but a friend of mine who lives on the CT shoreline has had three cars ruined by it.

It's almost like the damn birds know you've just cleaned your car....remember that old Maxima commercial with the pigeons?? It wasn't fiction (at least not for me).
I don't know if I agree with the concept that coastal bird crap is worse...you ever see a white car after a flock of robins gets finished with a cherry tree in Ohio or Michigan? Brutal!
The key is to get the stuff off the paint quick - another killer is tree sap - I try not to park near/under trees, but sometimes I'm in a hurry and it's the last open space.
Pin oaks are the worst - my folks still have one over the driveway. I park in the street when I visit.
Ah the joys of car ownership
