2003 TLS Navigation?? Is it worth it??
Hey all,
I purchased a 2003 TL Type S without Navigation back in late July, and I'm thinking about trading it in to get one WITH Navigation.
My plan was to get an aftermarket dvd/navigation player, but i haven't seen any i like, and to be honest, it looks kinda cheesy to me when you put an aftermarket dvd player in a car that has an option for it.
I didn't think i needed the Navigation because I don't go anywhere, but there have been a few times where it would've been useful. I have 3600 miles on it and about to bring it in for an oil change. I'm thinking of letting them know that I wanna trade it up for the Navigation TLS.
I think i'll be taking a loss though, and might have to cough up an extra $5,000.
Now, my question is, will it be worth it? Is the Navigation really that good? And can it easily be converted to play DVD's?
Thanks
-Rob

Navi not that good
The factory navi is good but not worth $5k. I've got navi in my '03 and use it a few times a month. It's nice. I'm trusting it more and more (i.e., not double checking a map). I'm chalk your experince up to an "Oh, well. I should have gotten the navi". Just get it in your next car.
I have seen an aftermarket navi that gives verbal directions. Garmel? It just mounts on the the dash. You might be able to farbicate a custom mount. Pull it out, stick it on, fire it up and use it when needed. Else, leave it in the center console. It would definely be less that $5k.

<< If you are getting the stock navi for $5K you are getting ripped off. I got mine for $2K and worth every penny >>
It's going to cost $5K because he has to trade his almost new 03 TLs in for another 03 TLs with NAV. NAV option is $2k and he will probably lose about $3k for trading in his 3 months old carl.
Like PAW mentioned, you may want to take a look at the Garmin Street Pilot route. I've used it twice and it's pretty decent. The screen is small but it does have voice prompt. I did have trouble picking up a satellite at one point. This could probably be fixed with an external antenna. It is portable.

$5K for Navi? Are you insane?
How many is a few? Three? That's $1667 per use. That's a seriously expensive map.
A laptop, add-on GPS receiver, and Streets & Trips comes in way under $1500. And, a whole lot more utility.
