2003 TL or TL-TypeS

Hi everyone!!!
I am new here and I am currently looking at 03 TLs. I am between the regular TL or a Type S. Any preference on which to get? I am looking for the one that will be good for adding performance parts. I have found a TL type S 03-54,913 miles for 18,995 Certified. Is this a good price? More information the better.

Thanks
Scott

I would go with the Type S. A lot of people mod the TL-P with TL-S parts for a reason...they like the Type S better. I am biased on this b/c I own a TL-S myself. That price seems pretty good but I would check kbb.com or edmunds.com and get an accurate pricing. Of course if that is the sticker price, you can always talk them down.

Definitely a Type-S. I drove the TL-P as service loaners and they are is a big difference in the character of the car. If you are looking for performance and a sportier feel get the Type-S.

that price is too high for the mileage. shop around and you will find much better deals.

Type S feels much more aggressive than the TLP. Everytime I drive my girl's car making turns is slushy compaired to mine, but hers takes bumps softer too due the different suspension... the ride is stiffer though. Go take them both for test drives... take them out for a good hour and you'll see which one you like better.

Defintitely test drive both and you will be able to decide which one you like better. Most dealerships will let you take the car overnight as well. That will really give you a feel for it. I would test drive the TL-S first, but that's just me.

I'd say go with a Type-S. I got an 02 TL-S and it's been great. The 19k seems reasonable with it being acura certified. You could probably still talk them down a little too.

If you do get a 2003 make sure it's within the VIN range for the 100,000 mile transmission warranty extension.

I got a TL-P but I wish I had a TL-S. I would have Less stuff to do as far a MODS go.

Or...just buy a Type-S mod it and make it even faster than a TL-P with mods!

Hey Scott ,,,look at it this way . Lets say you buy a TL-P and you're driv'in around and you see a Type - S go by and you start think'in , I should have bought one of those ,,,, Don't have those kind of regrets . Buy the Type-S , YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

haha. or be the first to put a AV6 SC on a TL-P and blow the doors off a modded tl-s. low compression ratio equals more power and greater potential from a blower!

or buy a tl-p, swap a cl-s 6 spd tranny and a tl-s engine and put a turbo on it and smoke the turbo'd tl-s 5AT. LOL, let's stop now please. Honestly if it were me buying a new car today I would buy the tl-s of course, it is a better car overall and it should be it is the highest trim for a 2G TL. I have seen certified tl-s in my area with similiar mileage going for 16,500-18,000.00 tops w/navi. look around more. check out autoweb.com, autotrader.com, craiglist.com, etc. and you'll find them.

Really? Maybe I'll take a day trip down to Jersey to sell/trade in my car there.

There is an 03 SSm CL-S 6spd w/navi for sale at Precision Acura down there! mmmmmm...6spd...yeah

Sorry back to the point. GET A TYPE-S IF YOU CAN.

Deal with them...they will lower the price. It's the asking price. Dealers aren't moving too many cars right now. You can also mention that you know about the well documented tranny problems. This should help you bargain a bit. I say you could get at least $2K off the $19K asking price. (maybe more)

Good luck!

Scott,
I bought my TL-S in December with 34K for 17,995. Mine was at the dealership for 3 months and was originally listed at 20,995 so if you keep your eye on one specific car and notice it hasn't moved , they will most likely move the one that has been sitting on their lot the longest. Like previously stated get the vin number and go into Acura owner's link https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=acura and make sure youre specific 03 is covered under the 100k drivetrain warranty.
