i have a 2003 tl (not s) and i was wanting to know the location of the tc lockup solenoid. i want to know what i am looking for. i want to check teh connection and clean it.

okay. since i cant seem to figure out which one it is, i pulled the 2 on the front of the trans, below the starter, cleaned them and the connectors put a little trans fluid on them and put them back in. i then did the same thing with the 2 on top beneath the waterneck. i have already cleaned the ones that are together on the top below the battery tray. i did not see any other solenoids on it. i think that is a total of 7 if you count the combined ones individually.

if i missed some then someone chime in and let me know.

what happens if these solenoids get dirty? will the TC not engage fully?

Problem is is 99.9% of the time when you get a code for the TQ converter the damage is done and you need a trans rebuild.

this is true. i however am not going to spend $2000+ on a car that is not worth that much and has over 200k miles on it and the trans has already been replaced before. i am just trying to prolong the inevitable until like march when i can pay off a few bills and trade this p.o.s. on a pathfinder that doesn't have repetitive trans failures on every forum, and can haul stuff.

btw: with a seafoam trans tune in it for about a week (150 miles or so), babying it and then all this cleaning, and a 2x3 drain/fill with type-f fluid and about half a quart of lucas transfix i made a drive without having to take my foot off the gas to get it to go into gear. so this may be something that people trying to extend things may want to try. will report back after a bit more testing.

Hey Diptenkrom, why did you decide to use "type - f" fluid ? While you're doing all the cleaning, replace the tranny filter and check the ground wires.

PS, FYI: do some research on the "Pathfinder", as some of the older ones had head gasket issues.
