2003 TL-S vs Dodge Hemi Pick-up, who wins?
A friend of mine has a Hemi Dodge Pick-up. He keeps telling me that it's really fast. He keeps talking enough that I told him to prove it. He has some pipes as his only mod which are extremely loud. My car is bone stock.
So Sunday, at two different lights, we had at it. I'm not going to tell you the results until enough people venture an opinion. The outcome was identical both times. BTW he is 4WD but he ran two wheel drive both times
Take a guess and see if you are surprised or who is the bright bulb among us.

You may get some negative posts by witholding information, but I would say the TL, simply because it's way lighter. I think top end as well would still go to the TL. Now, are we talking TL or TLs? TLs I think for sure would be able to handle that truck. Those trucks do look good, but I hate Chrysler/Dodge products. In the shop, out the shop, in the shop, out the shop......pattern emerging here

The only Dodge truck you need to worry about is the SRT-10 with the Viper engine. The regular trucks (sans a monster Diesel) are simply too underpowered for their weight to run with the TL.

I would say the TL-S takes it every time.... a friend and I agree I would be able to take his Ford F250 turbo diesel with my modded 99 TL... My neibour gave me the keys to his Dodge Hemi once he got home from the dealership with it... it only had 650 km on the truck so I wasn't going to break it in by flooring it off the line, but I gave the gas pedal a couple good "stomps" to see the power. Fast but not too fast...
In conclusion I think the ford F-250 turbo would beat the Dodge Hemi and I'm pretty confident I would beat the F-250 with my modded 99..
in order from fastest to slowest in a 1/4 mile (my guess)..
Stock type-S
Modded 99 TL-p
Ford F-250 Turbo
Dodge Hemi

i had a ram 1500 Hemi as a loaner when my tranny was getting fixed and that thing peels like crazy the torque is great all the way to 3rd gear and its auto, modded on top of that id say in a straight 1/4mile the hemi might be the one id put my money on, any twists and turns then its definitely the acura

I currently have the new motor trend issue in front of me and from the "Road Test Results" the Ram SRT-10 runs 0-60 at 4.8.. now that can be disasterous, but no worries for you since the 2500 HD runs 60's at 8.1 and the SLT runs in at 8.9. if he only has the 1500Hemi, he has no chance.
the Type-S models run at what, at stock 0-60 is ran under 7 seconds.
it doesnt even matter about the hp difference, since pickups are just extremely heavy

and pickups are made for towing...though most dont use them for that, and the 4x4 version is hella heavy also. now the SRT-10, I really dont see how you can even drive that truck with all that HP and torque on those rear wheels that have very little weight on them.

And the answer is....
Man do those Hemi's have a bunch of torque! He got me by a truck length each start. We both hit it at exactly the same time, both had some wheel spin, and I saw his exhaust both times.
However once I reached VTec range I pulled even with him and when the TL-S shifted into 2nd I continued to walk away from him. I had about 4 lengths up to about 70 and I am sure if we kept going I would have kept on walking away.
The thing that was surprising was the hole shot he got each time. There is no substitute for rear wheel drive and huge torque when drag racing.
The exact thing happened when I raced my friends Porsche Cayenne S. She got me with a hole shot, I caught up and walked away.
I guess I need to practice my starts.
Thanks for the opinions.

trucks are meant to be strong, rugged, and towing.. that's why theyre so big and heavy. i dont know why they race them, but hopefully i wont get run over now by trucks (F150, rams, and all those other "racing" pickups) that are lowered and have aluminum wings with coffee can fart cannons because of what i just said.

OMG why even waste your time/gas?? My friend Brett did try to race me in his F-250 turbodiesal w/ 42 inch tires, like 22 inch truck rims, lifted, exhaust, intake, and a chip. I passed him like he was standing still it was funny listening to his turbo spool 4 cars behind me.

had the same problem with my roomate, he has a hemi ram and I have a jeep cherokee (TL is still in production) ... he got me off the line, but my jeep kept neck and neck with him up to 90. Now that I am getting the new car, he wants to race that.

Actually every truck is governed at 100MPH, except the trucks that come stock with street tires ie. Lightning, SRT-10. It is because of the tire rating... Truck tires are only rated to 100mph so the companies were forced to govern them at that speed, it would be illegal if they had the truck's governor/ limitor set above the tire rating speed.
I used to have a nice lowered S-10 SS, 200hp rear wheel drive, fun truck.. I raced one of my foreman after work one day on the highway.... I blew him away but my truck wouldn't go above 160km... he was in an Alero.... the alero's governed at 185km... needless to say he eventually passed me, wasn't anything I could do unless I wanted to block the lanes, but in traffic playin can get you in trouble

Did you shut your VSA OFF....because you should have took him even right off the line. You need to shut VSA OFF on our cars. It absolutely kills off the line performance with it on.

I used to sell Dodge trucks(I hated it) but the 1500 hemi is a fast truck, not as fast as even a TL-P though. I raced a kid at the dealership I worked with and off the line he had me by a hair but then v-tec kicked in and he was all done. The SRT-10 is fast, but claimed 0-60 times of 4.8 are bogus, it's faster the my tl-p, but not by a landslide. They peel out way too easily too. You have to pussy-foot the pedal when taking off. 500HP in a truck is just retarded anyways. Only people that bought those trucks were rednecks that couldn't even afford to pay for them just wanted them for a while until they got repoed, but hey Chrysler doesnt care, they'll approve almost anyone for credit.

OK, VSA was on since I didn't want to ruin my brand new Yoko's, which by the way are a great improvement over the OEM tires. Air Conditioning was off. I just let the car do it's thing which is bog off the line and then come on strong and let it shift all by itself.
My starts are much better when I drive my 6 speed car
I think that hemi would still accelerate just as well pulling a house.
