2003 TL needs Transmission Replacement

First off, Hello everyone in the TL area of the boards.

I want you all to know that i hate you all because I'm an 03 RL owner and there's NO WAY (still looking...) for me to add an Aux In without ripping apart my dash while you 03 TL owners can add and remove Aux In mods as you please. WHY HONDA WHY?! (/sarcasm)

Anyway my friend has an 03 TL and uh...due to uh...*cough* being a girl*cough* issues she FUBAR'ed her transmission.

What i'm trying to find out is:
- Where can a replacement transmission be found
- Roughly how much is it going to cost to buy said replacement
- If anything else needs to be replaced
- Should labor be done by any grease monkey or should it be taken to the 'stealership' for labor
- Roughly how much is labor going to cost
- How long is labor going to be
- Last should she scrap the RL and get a *shudders* Honda Accord instead

I'm looking for very GENERALIZED answers. I realize that prices are going to be different from state to state and shipping and different labor costs and all that red tape. Just going for a baseline price of how much.

Any and all assistance in this matter would be greatful

Also for anyone who doesnt understand the tag i'm be sarcastic about hating you all...not really i'm still kinda ticked off about no DIY Aux in...

first thing to do is get the VIN number for the car- the 17 digit id
then call acura at 1-800-382-2238 x5 and ask if part of the extended warranty
If yes- smile and proceed directly to acura
If not, next proceed to acura for diagnosis

If warranty in effect for her- they special court ordered 7 year9 month from new or 109k miles- its a freebie!
If not covered VIN to 109k miles,(not all 03s were included) then acura will usually do a `Goodwill split cost` ranging from $500 labor to swap in a rebuilt unit from acura and $300 for a 3/36 warranty
If they wont do that- they will price match AA or cottman 2500-2800
full retail is 3500 for the trans and 500 labor to install

Please read the first and last few pages of Tranny Failure thread for full detaisl, but its not as bad as you think

whats the car doing exactly- does it match the symptoms list for ANY of them?
dont let joe grease NEAR the TL!

while you have acura on the phone- ask for a recall records check- some 03 get a free timing belt and pulley- you pay a little for the water pump to get done at the same time and save $800!

there was also a recall to add an external oiler kit on the trans- if that wasnt done and caused failure on non covered vin car- that will get warranty erplacement of trans too
We can help!!!

She's owned the car for around a year, for the first six or so months she's been driving it in 1st gear not knowing how to select her gears. Oh did i mention that it's an automatic? and she's a female? not trying to imply anything just pointing out some things.

As far as symptoms i'm not quite sure. I refuse to be a passenger in her car due to my loyalty toward the RL
