2003 Acura TL Type-S slippage

Hi,

This car has 97400 miles on the engine and 17400 miles on the transmission replaced by an Acura dealer in Dec 2009.

I'm not sure if I experienced slippage actually. I see the rpm dropped from 2k to 1700 when accelerating to 20 mph, and I feel power loss for a second; sometimes similar thing happens when I'm passing 40 mph.

I talked to a transmission mechanic and he said that what I experienced is not slippage because I should have seen the rpm went higher when slippage ...

But I don't have this problem before and I'm thinking if this is a symptoms for something?

The day before yesterday I started the car in the morning and I feel two slippage when the car was cold after it got warmer it ran fine.

But today I'm experiencing this "slippage" most of the time at 20 and 40 mph ...

I'm really worrying about this.

I saw the sensor replacement may help~ is there anyone who has done this on a 2003 TL Type-S

thats not the definition of clutch slippage--rpm goes up and car doesnt go--thats slipping

you may feel torque convertor problem or selenoid(s) needs to be cleaned
worth trying that first

stop by the dealer and ask Service MANAGER if the head tech can take a spin around the block with you to determine if its something for you to fix or what it needs from them
I find that a box of Donuts get special request approved faster~

Thank you for this insight~

Do you mean that my transmission does not have slippage problem?

The Acura dealer is too far away and I will ask a local shop to clean the torque converter and the selenoid(s). Do you know how much it costs?

Thank you.

The link above is for 3rd gen and is not the same. However, 03 does have a tranny filter, part # 25450-P7W-003, below the fluid warmer and two solenoids in the front below the starter that need to be cleaned.

Thank you for the help. Do I need to have the dealer clean the two solenoids? I showed the car to a transmission mechanic and he said the car was fine and what I experienced was normal. So I'm thinking if I should postpone the filter replacement and have the solenoids cleaned first. If simply cleaning does not solve the problem I will change the filter. The filter can be easily changed in a local shop, right?

Thank you.

The filter is very easy to change, either by you or the shop. the filter alone costs about 45 dollars. in either case, if your filter is over 100k, you should change it as a routine maintenance. Dont overlook this filter change. Clog filter will lead to your tranny failure due to lack of lubrication and overheating. I drain my fluid every 15-20k and if that much of slug is on the drain bolt every 15k, imagine how bad the filter would be.

The engine oil filter is required to change every oil change and the oil barely have any slug; where tranny fluid has so much slug but filter is being ignored.

Are the 03 the only ones with the removable filter?
