2003 Accord

2003 Accord
Just read over the weekend the little write up in Motor Trend (May issue) about the 2003 Accord. The pictures make the car out to be a NICE car, but what got me was the sophisticated and Benz?-like blinkers integrated into the side-view mirrors. Isn't that type of accessory limited usually to the more elite of lines (like the ACURA?) Why wouldn't we see that FIRST in the TL, (and RL, RSX etc...) and then in the Accord???
Honda's decision making is very questionable here. Im confused.
Anyway, maybe the accord is goint to be the new "status symbol" for Honda, and the TL dropped to ....just a nice car.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The Accord is the basis for the TL so it's safe to assume whatever it gets, the TL will get as well. Given that, it makes sense that the new Accord (and new features that come with it) come out before the new TL.

The pressure is on. In order for Honda to stay in the game it has to do one better than the competitors. The new Camry looks great, Altima is not bad, therefore by adding these "new" features to the new Accord could steal some sales away from the other two mentioned above. I am willing to bet the new TL will have even more features such as telescoping steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, etc... Don't sweat it too much, you can always trade your TL in for an Accord.

I really don't see blinkers on side view mirrors as a status symbol... what the heck is so cool about them? I saw an Explorer with those the other day.
Status symbol requires the part to cost more than a few dollars to the manufacturer GPS = Yes, Blinkers = NO

These blinkers that you speak of, lots of times a car company will do little details to their non-production vehicles to either make a statement or just to dress the car up a little. I say non-production vehicle because I doubt that the finalized, production Accord will look exactly like the one pictured in MT.......they will look a lot alike, but park 'em next to each other and I'll bet there will be more than a few differences.
I could very well be totally wrong about this though but I doubt they would put a luxury styling touch on the Accord without putting it on the TL/CL. Also, any word on power on the next Accord? I keep hearing 240 hp, does anyone else have any info on this?

Nowadays, the majority of cars are getting items that were normally reserved for "luxury" cars. Take for example the navi. Only a few years ago, only the true "luxury" car had them. But now it is either standard or offered as an option. The same can be said about HIDs.
Oh and don't worry about the Accord having better things. Remember that the Accord is way older than the TL (started in the 80s) so the new TL in 04 should be even better than the Accord.

True, but still those sorts of amenities are are offered on mid-lux vehicles, not on Ford Focus-type vehicles. Altho, I hate to say it, but I think somewhere soon down the line, common econoboxes like Civics an Focuses will start coming with HID and such. Kind of pisses me off.

Ill have to agree with Lucky and jkc, the car pictured in MT is just a prototype and definitely not set for production yet, so there's sure to be changes to what's pictured. And besides, it's true, the TL will get every feature available to the Accord, plus a few "extra goodies" that will set it apart (more elite) from the Accord.
I just LOVE those Benz-like side-mirror integrated blinkers, to me they're definitely status symbol. I've seen the types on the Expeditions and Explorers, and those kinds just aren't the same - Ford does not offer that as even a option, and the kinds i saw were on the actual mirror, NOT INTEGRATED into the metal molding of the side mirror. Those Ford's blinkers look cheap; the Benz looks TIGHT.
Im not gonna sweat it though, thanks for your input guys, Im excited about the new 2004 TL-S. Can't wait to see what Honda has in store for the "Extra goodies" to put into the 04. Based on what may go in the 03 Accord, my expectations have really increased.
