2003 3.2TL Type S A-Spec

So I recently purchased one of these to add to my collection. I must say that this car is unbelieveable. Not only does it out perform most cars on the road, the thing always seems to wanna move. When I push the gas to about 3/8 the way, it's almost like the pedal is pulling my foot more....

I was wondering a few things about it. I tend to drive the car quite fast, and generally gunn it at the lights, is the transmission in these cars also affected by that problem Acura has had lately?

Another thing is the brakes. Don't get me wrong, the brakes are amazing in this car. However I do prefer when the brakes are extremely tight. What I mean is as soon as I touch the pedal, I get a response. My old TL was like that for the majority of its life, and I wanted to see if I could adjust them to feel that way. I've done a couple panic stops in my New A-Spec, and I must say the brakes are fonominal. This car really portrays the saying, "It stops on a dime".

Please let me know your opinions.

thanks

Congrads on the new purchase!!
Shouldnt gun it or panicstop on the brake.
You just puchased it, you need time to break in then you can do all the fun stuff. break-in period 800+miles. I know some people do 400+

I thought the brakes in these cars were known for being bad? I am wavering between getting the Type S or a Lexus IS300... the brakes and the tranny problems in the Type S is the only thing making me lean toward the Lexus

Well I have like 3500 km/h (I'm in Canada) which is like 2200 Miles on the thing. Does that justify gunning it? or is it still to new for me to be pushing it?

alderran, I thought of the same purchase, look at the size difference and the performance level, then look at the price tag. If you decide to get the Lexus please let me know how you justified spending that kind of money for a lot less. For me personally I looked at the Lexus, Audi A4 and BMW 3-series...the TL-S was a no brainer, more bang for the buck!

Congrats on the purchase.... but I agree with the above... you should let the car break-in before you drive it like you are. I waited 1000 miles before I really got on it.

As for the tranny, the A-specs should NOT be affected by the tranny issue. In fact, the newer 2003 builds have not had any problems, it's the early 2003 builds and older that are affected.

As for the brakes... there have been some warped rotors... but it's not really a problem per say. Not more of a problem then it would be on any other car....

Sat, June 7 ... 3pm @ 400/7 (D&B)

Hey,

To follow up on TLS RULZ's message -- we're having a TL/CL/whatever meet.

Date: Sat, June 7
Time: 3pm -- ???
Location: Dave & Buster's south end of the parking lot

Be there! Would be cool to see A-specs attend. (I might be a little late from Woodbine Acura ... getting mods done in the morning...)

You may have a twin on the 7th. I just leased a blue A Spec and got it on Saturday.

The dealer told me that my car does have a 7 year/160k warranty on the tranny (from Honda Canada), so even if there are tranny problems, we should be covered - from what the dealer said, Honda is warrantying all TL transmissions.

I've only got 200km or so on mine, so I haven't been able to really drive it yet. The dealer told me 300km before hard braking, and 1000km before flooring it. I hate driving like a grandma. From what some of you are saying, I should maybe baby it even longer?!? I wanna drive it now!

congrats to both of you on the new A-Specs

because I'm planning on keeping my TL until it dies, I played it safe and waited until my first oil change before I stood on the gas pedal...but you don't have to wait that long :P

Here are some pics. They are in the TL A-Spec folder. I'm working on getting some with the AEM intake and Neuspeed Strut and lower tie bars.

it's the new limited edition of the 3.2TL Type S. Only 800 are produced in the world. And it comes with exclusive features to that model, and a personalized leather jacket. It's quite a pimp ride!

Well, at least Acura is taking care of the complaints. They extended the warranty on all trannies and most Acura dealerships don't even flinch when you bring in your car for new rotors as a warranty repair.

As far as the Lexus IS300, my wife test drove one before we got the TL-S and she said it was tiny inside - no room. Now the TL-S isn't the largest car so that goes to show how much smaller the IS300 is. If you don't have adults sitting in the backseat, then the IS300 is fine. A little slow with the automatic, but fine....

Is it avail. in the U.S.? If so, what's the price range? What diff. does it have? Does it have more Horsepower? Sounds like a sweet ride.

I think it's available in Canada and the US - though with the number of A-Specs coming to Toronto's meet this Sat. I wonder if a large % came to Canada. Performance-wise it's identical to a regular Type-S. The differences are pretty much all cosmetic. I think it costs about $2000 more than a type-S here in Canada. It's a good deal, because I think that works out cheaper than what you'd pay for skirts, spoiler etc. add-on's to a regular TL-S. Plus, you get the blue leather inserts, 'titanium-look' accents, coloured headlights (the stuff around the headlights, not the light itself).

Well, I guess that's only fair since we can't get the navi.

The color on the seats look a little "Gaudy"

Not for me, you need some Type-S stickers on the sides of the car

the color actually looks very nice but due to using a flash while taking pictures it does not show as well as it looks when looking at it for real. My cousin has one with plain black interior on a 2002 type s even he agrees this looks way better.
just my 2 cents worth!!!!!!!!!!!
