2002 TLS Oil Change 7500 MILES?!?!

I have a 2002 TLS, and the dealer says that I need an oil change every 7500 miles. Is that right? Doesn't that seem WAY to long to wait to change my oil? Maybe I mis understood him, could someone help and clear this up for me. Thanks

Ask for a maintenance schedule from the dealership. It indicates that you need an oil change every 3,750 miles.

3,750 miles for harsh driving. Look in your manual it says something like "Harsh condition driving" oil chance should be 3,750 and "Regular conditoin driving" is like 7,500. I'm taking mine in at 7,500 because I bought it in Feb and have about 4500 miles on it

For mineral oil, 5000 is a figure easy to remember, and many companies have recognized how good today's oils are - Ford has a standard 5000 interval, period, severe or light duty.

For syn, 7500-10k is easy, perhaps change the filter and add make up oil at half that.

It depends a lot on where and how you drive - if it is mostly highway, go longer - if it is all stop and go in very hot or very cold, go shorter.

Many Euro cars use a sensor to measure the TAN (total acid number), an indicator of oil's wellness. They also have a memory analyzer that looks at number of starts, length of run, RPM's, etc. Even with these, oil change intervals often run well in excess of 15,000 miles, esp, when they factory fill with synoils as many do now.

The day of the 3000 mile oil change is over - it really is a waste, albeit a relatively cheap one for mineral oil. Let's invade Iraq to keep the supply steady. Heheheheheh.
