2002 TLS dash rattle
My relatively new TLS has an irritating dash rattle that the dealer can't get rid of. It typically follows sitting in the sun and starts rattling when it cools off outside. I shouldn't have to stick things in the cracks of the dash above the tach and speedo to try and stop the racket. My older TL never rattled. Anyone with the same problem? Any cures?
I have a "buzzing" sound coming from that area when I'm driving on certain road surfaces, and I can't find where it's coming from.
Have you checked the sunglasses holder? I thought I heard the sound coming from there.

I have the same exact rattle, unfortunately, I can't pinpoint where in the instrument cluster area it's coming from. I'm resorting to driving with one hand holding down the instrument cluster area to stop the rattling. It is literally driving me crazy!
try pushing the dash board FORWARD...really hard...see if it takes away the noise for a little while..if it does..that means ur dash is not aligned right....have dealer take out the dash and aligned it correctly then pushed in...

I have had that rattle in my TLS for about the last 8 months and I am almost certain the noise comes from the air vent and not the dash itself. I think the noise comes from the little "tab" slide thing that adjusts which direction air flows. In my car, it is loose to the touch and it almost feels as if it snaps in and out of position. I realized this one day when it was buzzing non-stop, then I moved my vent and it stopped. Worth checking out.
I had a similiar rattle. I did everything to figure out where the noise was coming from. I had a friend of mine with me in the car when I heard the noise. Fortunately, he heard the noise too. He said it was coming from the windshield seal. I could not believe it. Since I work for American Honda Motors, I asked some of the engineers. They all said it is possible. Since the car is so tightly built, any twist of the frame or sudden bump can cause the seal to squeak. It sounds like a raddle. When I brought the car to the dealer they told me that they could not hear anything. However, I talked them into reseating the windshield. But this process also requires a new windshield since the windshield can crack during the pulling process.
After the windshield was replaced, I no longer heard the rattle.
I work with three other people in my department that drive 2002 TL type S. They have no noise or rattles. In the parking lot at Honda, I must walk by at least 100 TLs every morning. I wonder if any of them have problems.
I hope this was some help. Good luck

TRY THIS....
1. Remove your sunglasses from the sunglass holder.
OR
2. Remove any cans or plastic water bottles from your cupholders.
Sometimes those things rattle against the plastic. I hope it's one of these things so you can avoid a trip to the dealership. Good luck.

Same here.
The dash rattle seems to be coming right above
the instrument cluster. If I press and release my palm over
the dash (above the instrument cluster), I can
hear the rattling noise. I suspect there might something
uninsulated or some clip went bad behind the cluster panel.
..
I tried to get Pleasanton Acura to fix it couple times,
but whenever I got there, the rattle is gone.....
frustrating..
I guess I will just show them by press the dash without
road test...

Found possible dash rattle source
Hi all,
I believe I have found the source of dash rattle.
The rattle noise in my TL-S has been louder and louder
recently. When I apply pressure on the rightmost gauge,
rattle stops.
I guess you may try to do this simple experiment at home.
(See the pic below.) Use a cloth tower and apply pressure &
quickly release
on the rightmost gauge, see if you hear rattling kind
of noise. (Mine has rattling noise.) If so, it is likely to
be the dash rattling noise you hear. Now try to do the
same for the leftmost gauge. (Mine has no noise on the leftmost gauge.)
So, I believe something funny has gone wrong with
the gauge assembly or its surrounding.
I haven't got a chance to visit dealer and I
don't know what the fix is. Dealer has replaced the dash
panel couple weeks ago, but it doesn't stop the rattle noise.
(The worst is that there is a visible gap between dash panel
and dash top above center vent after the panel
constantly being put out and in
)
If your TL has similar dash rattle issue and
you have time to do this simple experiment, please share
with us what you have found. Perhaps it all sources to
same problem that we can help other to fix theirs.
Hope it helps,

I wish I had read this earlier. I have had this rattle for two years now. Even when I am driving on a smooth road, my dash still rattles like a tick tick tick but really fast. In my situation, if I press up on the right upper screw, the rattle goes away. I have tried tightening the screw but it is as tight as it will go. I took apart my dash and for the life of me, couldn't find anything that could possibly rattle. Its just the plastic dash, then insulation above it. So I just live with it now. If anyone figures out how to fix it, please let me know. Its annoying because its right in front of your face when you are driving.

Guess I'm just lucky, but my 2002 TLS still has the original tranny and other than one rattle that I fixed myself, it's totally rattle free. Acura can build a quality car...but not all the time!!
Hey, I have a 03 TLS and have an annoying rattles behind my gauge cluster too. I noticed it a few days after I picked mine up. I figured I'd just wait until my first oil change and hope they find it.
