2002 TLS Brake master cylinder

I was replacing the brake master cylinder when I noticed a slight difference ,is there a difference between the Base and Type-S master cylinders? the base aka the one I received from the parts place had a rod sticking out of the back like the one in the service manual but my one (Type-S) didn't checked online seems to be two different ones but is that possible or is it something am I missing?

Type-S

It is indeed different between tl-s vs tl. tl-s does not have the rod.

Ahh...that's very strange why Honda would do that...I dont see a difference in performance..its the only master cylinder I have ever seen to have no rod......have you any experience with replacing the master cylinder?

the rod is activated by the action of brake pedal
Does the old one have the rod solidly mounted to MC?
or the rod pulls free- which is the normal way

is the issue just one of comes with new rod or transfer old one?
Parts desk at acura can probably tell you about pressure difference (my guess as to real differences)
or is it proportioning bias?, does anyone know about that subject-- being inside MC or unrelated external valve?

The rod is permanently mounted......the one on the tls didn't come out with a rod,i thought it fell...strange that Honda would make such a difference it increases their production costs slightly so there must be a reason..its an annoyance now for me.

I think it shouldn't make much difference... If the rod is permanently mounted or not it must work in the same fashion for manufacturing purposes.

I think the one with the Rod just cant be mounted in a car where there isn't one... That's the only annoyance at least for us the buyers not so much for Honda.

its probably to speed the factory assembly process, no chance of dropping the rod
