2001 TL Tranny Drain Bolt. Location?
I'm just about to change the tranny fluid but want to verify
the drain bolt location. Looks to be a bolt with an inside
square pattern on the front left corrner of the tranny underside.
(facing the front bumper)
A square ratchet (1/2 inch) without a socket fits it.
Anyone?
Thanks,
/Steve
33K. No failure.....yet (crossing my fingers.....)

Hmm. Maybe my original description was faulty.
This bolt is round, with in inside square depression (square hex)
and I think 3/8 is correct. The face of the bolt faces the passenger tire but it is of course on the driver side. It is near the
front of the tranny nearest the bumper. I did not see any recognizable drain bolt facing the drivers tire. I'll have to look again.
Thanks,
/Steve

Definitely tastes like tranny fluid!
BTW: You were right. The bolt DOES face the drivers side tire.
I was spun around under the car looking for it and my image of
which way it faced was wrong.
I notice the magnetic prong on the drain bolt had a bit of gunk stuck to it. The fuild itself looked very clean (34k miles).
Hopefully that's just break-in, normal wear activity.
Even if I get a free replacement on failure I hope not to undergo
the inconvienience and I do believe that lemon is a dealer installed option. (sometimes)

I just changed the tranny fluid on my 03 TL-S with 30K miles. Unfortunately, you drain only 3 out of 7 qts in the tranny. Mine oil fluid was a bit on the dark side in color with some "mud" on the magnetic drain plug. Tranny shifts fine - no problems.

The gunk on the magnet is normal, very common on all automatics and probably manuals too. Actually, Honda automatics are kind of a hybrid anyway. Most automatics have some sort of magnet in the pan but since there is no pan in this case, they were nice to include it on the drain plug. Eric.

Yes, thats a good thing to do with the plug design. Mine did not have that much gunk on it (01 34k).
Because of the 3.3 quart drain out of the 7.6 in the casing Acura recomends that you drain the 3.3, drive at least three sessions, then drain again. It's not a totally clean drain but the first three mix with the last three and clean it up. The second drain leaves you with mostly new fluid by percentage.
The most important thing to look for that I know is either shavings or debris, and burnt dark fluid.
In my case, very clean.
