2000 TL -Transmission Going
Hello everyone. First off, i have been reading this board for a little over a year now but never posted. The forum has proved immensely useful in my stereo install and general understanding of this car. Thanks to everyone who contributes.
Now... to the real story. I have been noticing my transmission acting a little different lately (slow gear engagement, harder shifts, etc). Also, the CEL just came on the day before service, but no blinking D5. I have a 2000 TL non-navi with 87102 miles. She is a great car and I checked the vin and whalah.... i was covered. I just brought the car in for an oil change and tire rotation, and motor mounts (front only) and told my service manager about the transmission issues; she said they would take a look and give me a call mid day. BY the way, they gave me a great loner for the day: a new 2006 TL. When the service manger called me back she informed me that I was right about the tranny and that i was covered. She ordered the new transmission and told me they would replace the motor mounts for free and give a loaner for the day. I am scheduled for next week to get the new tranny. I think i am going to replace the timing belt at the same time since the motor mount is free.
I just thought i should write in and let everyone know that Acura really is a great company and the 2g TL is a great car (I liked it better than the 3g TL). I will let you all know how the new tranny runs.
One last request; is there anything else I should have replaced with the timing belt?
Thanks everyone!

What dealership do you go to? Most around here are a**es to me. My check engine light+TCS light came on a while back.... and now... 1,300+ miles later. the tranny's still going... I feel the harsh shift into reverse ever since the light came on.. but it's still going.. but for how long?.. dunno

Gettel Acura in Sarasota. I see you are in Tampa, but it may be worth the drive. Let me me know if you need contact info.

87,000 and they are doing the motor mounts for free!!!! what a score
Most of us had to pay if over 50 thousand miles
But why change all the other stuff at such low miles, thats just paying the dealer another way
Most are reporting at 100k the timing belt still had a good 50 k left on it
What do you think fsstymes1- give the dealer money now- or wait and have an independant shop do it in a year or 2
In general- the feeling is only the dealer do warranty work- dont even let them change your oil.

If I didn't do my own work on my cars I would gladly pay the dealer for oil changes. My dealer is reasonable for oil changes and they would look for other problems unlike the quick lube places.

Just out of curdosity when your 2000 TL tranny went did it ever clunk into gear. The past couple weeks my car has "clunked" into gear a couple times and and im just like shit. Now I would think its the tranny and i just hope its not going and if it is I hope it goes within the next 18k miles.

the clunk sounds familiar but mine was more delayed engaging.
As far as the timing belt... are there any signs that it needs to be replaced? What is the cost. Do the rest of you think I should wait on that?

Ok all... i got a phone call from Acura this morning and my transmission was all done; i dropped it off on friday afternoon and it was ready by 9:00 am monday. I have to say it does drive better; i guess i always thought my car was supposed to drive the way it did (harder shifts, etc). All in all, I think Acura has stepped up to the plate and taken responsibility for their design. I will definitely buy another acura when the time is right (gotta pay off my law school loans first).
