2000 tl trans problem/advice

Hi all, first time poster, long time lurker. Just bought a 2000 TL, beautiful car, well maintained, but.......99,900 mi. CRAZY??? Iam aware of the tranny problems and guess what 2 days ago my tranny acts up. Super hard downshift, felt like i dropped an anchor out the back. The indicator light went out then came on. Now when it shifts it seems to be trying to find the next gear. It is going in tomorrow for a check up that was previously scheduled at a dealer. I am going to tell him about this problem, he will be able to see for himself after a test drive. What do you think my chances are of this being covered by the 100k warranty on trans problems. I bought it privately not from a dealer??TIA

First thing is to see if you are covered by the 7yr/100000 mile extended warranty. Go here and register. It will list recalls and let you know if you are covered by the warranty. If you are covered insist that the dealer replace that transmission immediately. Do not accept anything less. By all means do not exceed 100000 miles before you get action. Good luck, and I hope you are covered.

Oh, by the way, I just got my 2000 TL as well 62275 miles with no tranny replacement yet. Welcome to the board and I hope your next post can be on a happier note.

Now I have a 2000 TL with 53,000 miles on it... Is there a recall on the tranny's or do you have to have the warranty to cover it..??

there is a recall on it, but they are doing it on a case by case basis. Your warranty has been extended to 7 years/100,000 miles on the tranny. if you feel jerking while shifting your tranny may have issues and can qualify for a replacement... if you havent felt anything so far, hope it stays that way

Just got a call from the dealer.....They are going to replace the tranny!! Although it didn't show the signs that i described, they did note that something wasn't right, and given the history of these tranny are replacing it at no cost. Remember I only had 20mi. left until the warranty expired. Great service at Park Ave Acura in NJ

After reading all of these replies I am a little nervous about my 00 TL because I just bought it three weeks ago. It only had 29,500 on it for $18995. I couldn't believe the price when he told me. Should I be worried about the tranny slippin anytime soon? Or was I extremely lucky to find a great deal.

So you think I should get it checked out? The car runs fine and I haven't noticed any signs of a possible slip. Do I just make a appointment with Acura to have it checked out and see what they have to say? I registered with the OnStar on the acura website but when I went to type in the VIN it did not give me info about my car. It said that Acura was fixing the problem. Do you think it had to do with my car or with the website itself?

They have been having website problems, keep checking. The site was working then it wasn't but last time i checked it was. My advice would be to take it in for an oil change or next scheduled service and express your concerns. They will likely test drive and hook it up to the diag. computer.

I paid $90 for a full diagnostic/safety inspection because i just bought the car and wanted everything checked. I don't know if they would have checked the tranny the same way if i hadn't paid the fee. Given the circumstances it was money well spent
