2000 TL climate control issues
2000 TL climate control issues
I am helping a friend fix his climate issues.
His first complaint was that the AC stopped working. Actually the fan had stopped working the AC compressor was running and the line was frosty and cold. The blower motor was not receiving power so I changed the fan speed resistor, and changed the very clogged filters. Everything started working but the fan was intermittently stopping. Well the fan connector was fried and melted and blew the 40A fuse in the engine bay. Changed the fan and replaced the fuse.
Now the fan is on full blast even if you try to shut the climate system off and the AC compressor will not engage so the car only blows hot full blast the whole time the car is on. The fan relay is good, I pulled the relay cover and watched it disengage when removed from the fuse panel, so it is receiving its on signal from the controller. I pulled all the fuses and the battery to try and initiate some kind of reset without success.
The 88 screen has a dash under the second 8 which indicates a resistor problem which I don't believe because it is new.
I believe that the fan motor running hot enough to blow the fuse may have damaged the digital control panel.
Before I spend any more of my friends money, I want to know if this is a logical, or if someone else can point me in another direction.
Thanks for any help.

Very possible. I believe the digital control panel if unplugged or problematic will cause the fan to just blow at full speed.
Anecdote: I took my dash apart to replace LED's a while back, forgot to plug the Climate control plug back in and when I turned the car on, I was just blasted with hot air which freaked me out for a second.

I don't know Hondas well, but on other cars when the blower resistor is bad only the high fan works as it has no resistor in the circuit. But the system will still shut off as it should be receiving no circuit signal at all. After changing the resistor the system worked correctly changing fan speeds, but then the fan connector fried.
