20% Tint for my Black on Black 2000 Acura 3.2TL?
#41
Hey Chris where did u get your tint done, cuz it seems like i have 35% factory tint...and like you said in CO it seems like there isnt a tint at all, could your guy just put a layer of 20 % right over that, or would i have to pay extra to have him take it off. I know a guy who does 15 or 10% for like 140 all around, but he would charge extra to take the tint off.

Hey man, I'm trying to remember what your tint was like, but I don't think you have any right now. Factory tint is about 94 percent, meaning only 6 pct of light/UV is blocked. I say this because on my old honda, I got stopped in Minneapolis and the cop measured my front driver window at 14 pct light allowed through window. I had 20 pct film on, so hence the extra 6 pct. So, Acuras should be the same, whatever pct tint film you get, subtract 6 pct to find out what you are really sitting at.
Here in CO, you can go 15 pct (actually 9pct) all around with no issues if you have beige interior. If you have black interior, go with 20 (14) all around. I personally like my rear window dark, so that's why I have 5 pct on my rear.
The factory tint is actually stained into the windows, so if you roll your window down a little, you should be able to see the seam at the top edge if it has been tinted by the previous owner. If so, you should not tint over tint on door windows since the extra thickness can catch and peel off or make your window operate very slowly up n down. It will be stripped and retinted.
The rear window can be tinted over tint by a professional and if the first layer is in excellent condition.
I'll PM you the place I recommend for you.

Fix for DOTS...
I painted about 4-5 layers of black paint over the dots from the inside. I then had the tint shop tint about half an inch overlapping the paint. Looks PERFECT!!
Just do a good job taping it off. I used a foam brush and MAKE SURE THE PAINT WILL STICK TO GLASS. I forgot if it was latex, I think it was latex based outdoor paint.
$10 fix.
Chicago - Mr. Kustom does a decent job. I think I paid $220 all around 20 percent and life warr.
