Smile 2 Tires +1 pothole = What an experience

Well, what a night it was yesterday. After some korean bbq buffet and coming out smelling like it also, I just simply had to run over something. It wasnt the biggest or baddest but it sure did do the most damage and quite the rare. Just simply hitting a pothole at around probably 30mph and mind you the pothole was probably the shape of a square with about no more then 1 foot each side and wham it took out two tires. The thing was I couldnt careless about the tires at all because the first thing that came to my mind was RIMS. So after visually inspecting the rims and just blowing by the tires like I didnt give a crap, it looked fine. Question is, that whether it was possible I might of bent the rims without visually being able to really see it. I do remember the person who I bought the rims from telling me that the stock rims were pretty strong and that he had hit a nice pothole with his own TL-S and thought he destroyed it but nothing happened. Another question would be and I highly doubt was whether alignment could of been affected? But I highly doubt it, hmm so anyone else blown 2 tires on 1 pothole or similar? Damn by the way 2 used tires(1 Bridgestone Potenza, 1 Fuzion) for 95 bux I wonder if being that I had 215/45/17's instead of the 215/50/17 made a difference.

When having the replacement tires put on did you have them inspect the rims at all for any damage? If the did and none was found your probably alright.

Yeah well I sort of checked but in reality I didnt inspect it clearly but It looks it its ok. Cuz I must of rode on pretty much rims and a slight bit of rubber due to my tires being exploded for about a mile. But I think stock rims are considered to be stronger then aftermarket ones. Man had my rims been bent or anything I would of just cried haha because it took such a long time to find the type-s Rims in that price and condition. Alignment wise I have no clue it doesnt seem like I really turned the car or so after I hit the pothole because I hit it dead on.

when you buy the tires they wont be able to be balanced if the rims are bent.

They would've told you at the tire shop if the wheels were bent. When they balance tires, a bent wheel becomes pretty obvious.

plus if you bend a wheel the tire will sometimes not hold air like what i ran into. but be careful on cast wheels they tend to shatter than bend. the most expensive forged wheels are usually prone to bending not shattering. but glad you ok. i know about pot holes. VEGAS has a ton of them to eat up wheels.

I haven't bent any rims on my TL, thank God, but on my previous car I did. You won't necessarily see any damage on your wheels. What happened to me, is that I hit a pretty big hole and there was no visible damage, however after that my car begun to shake while I was driving and the faster I would go the stronger shaking became.

you can check and see if you bent the entire rim (sometimes entire rim will shift) by lifting both front tires and put on drive, tires will spin, so look for uneven rotation. If both wheels are rotating smooth, then there is no shifting.

Even if your rip shifted a little, it doesn't mean that you will leak air. Thats what happened to me. Hope everything will work out man

Oh man lol, now you got me alittle paranoid. I feel like going for a car wash now and checking out the rims again if there is any sort of distortion in shape or if any air is leaking out. Hmm I dont think the dudes at the 24/7 tire shop really did much of a balance or checking of the rim/tire because those hispanics dont really give a crap and plus its used tires so I might just take it to the mechanic I go to.
