2 quick questions...

Did some searches on the subjects but couldn't find a final answer:

1. OK, seemed like the consensus is that 36k mile service, etc. is a waste of money b/c they just change the oil, check some valves, and charge you an obscene amt of money.

So what does everyone do then as far as maintenance goes? Just oil changes? If so how often - every 7k miles? I may just go that route but wanted to see everyone's experience.

The only thing I can think of that definitely needs to be looked at besides the oil is the timing belt - when is the best time to change that?

2. What is the best type of gas? I use the supreme unleaded from chevron b/c basically it's the best they have and I assumed that's best for the car. However, my mom got a new Lexus and apparently, the lowest grade (can't remeber how many octanes) is good enough for her car...what about the TL?

I have a 2000 TL, only 37k miles....thx

yea, i skipped the 36k. waste of $ for me. as far as oil changes go that really should depend on your driving. is it mostly hwy? mostly city? or 50/50. do you have severe weather? most get it changed at 3k, i change mie on average of 5-8k depending on my driving. switching to synthetic would be a good choice also. most recomend mobil 1. the timing belt i believe is due around 90 or 100k (cant remember off top of head) and its recomended to replace waterpump at the same time. i would however recomend having your tranny fluid changed every 30k or so. as far as gas goes, use what it recomends which is premium.

I do not know of one Lexus that requires anything but premium. Even the IS300 asks for Premium, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But definitely put premium into the TL.
As for oil change, every 7,000 is the norm. That's when I change mine.
