Exclamation 1999 TL Navigation System Problem/Upgrades

My wife as a 1999 Acura TL with the NAV System with the PCMCIA Hard Disk Drive. We keep getting a Disk Read Error (unformatted disk). I put the drive in my lap top and I can view all the files in the drive. I have not yet put it back in the vehicle to see if it is working again. My question to any one who may have done some on-line surfing on this subject is twofold. 1. Is this a common problem with the hard disk drive or is it the computer itself? 2. Is there a sight I can down load upgrades myself at a savings over the dealer?

Thanks to all who can help.

Richard

If you're in the LA area try Glendale Acura. I got the software installed for free. I have a PCMCIA Adapter with 512MB Compact Flash memory (total ~$45). Works better than a hard disk drive bec. it has no moving components and it's cheaper too.

I took my navi off, there are too many new roads here in Tampa that the navi wasn't recognizing. I rather get an aftermarket one.

So the original post is from 2005 (16 years ago). You can still find the PCMCIA hardware, but the nav software is so outdated I wouldn't waste the time and money.
