1999 TL Headlight Upgrade
1999 TL Headlight Upgrade
After years of lusting and cheating on my awful BMW, I finally ended up in a position purchase myself a second-gen Acura TL! I was very fortunate to find a red '99 for sale by an older gentleman who kept it in near mint condition (he was a retired naval engineer) with relatively low mileage (90k).
The TL is near perfect. However, I'm not too impressed with the stock xenon HID lowbeam bulbs. They are bright, but the white is rather plain and the yellowish tint is a bit off-putting. Thus, I am looking to upgrade to either 5000k or 6000k bulbs. I want to retain the original appearance of the TL as much as possible while still having a distinct white-ish blue beam from the headlights, but I am not sure of how the 6000k bulbs will look with the reflector-type headlamps. I had 6000k bulbs in my BMW, but it had projector headlamps. Will the 6000k bulbs give the car too much of an aftermarket appearance?
Also, what is the temperature of the OEM bulbs and wattage of the OEM ballasts? I am guessing the bulbs are about 4300k (which is usually the factory standard for vehicles with HID lamps) and the ballast output is 35 watts, but do correct me if I am wrong. Also, what type of bulb connection does the TL use (i.e., D2S or D2R)?
Any answers or suggestions are much appreciated. =)

5000 is a good compromise of added blue which picks up the reflecto paint used in lane lines, semi truck reflector tape, road signs show up 1/2 mile away~
6000 loses some white on the ground, not cool if you drive dark backroads
if thats the case stay with 4300
our sponsor Excelerate, www.excelerateperformance.com carries Kaixen brand which are well liked
or ck the internet for deals
new bulbs need 50 hours run time to get full color and brightness
use them all the time when you drive, its safer anyway
welcome to azine and thanks for using the search!!! sometimes it works
