Someone please tell me what's wrong with my car..

A 1995 neon (tranny swap, ported heads) almost beat me.. i was in front of him by like half a car lenght from 0-60, then he got in front of me from 60-85, then i started pulling and got in front of him.. cut it off at 105 or so...

so please tell me what's wrong. i had A/C and Radio ON and a passenger. but i dont think it should change the outcame that much.... and i have intake too.

im so ashamed. my car is ****ing slow as ballz.:o

LOL...I don't know what a tranny swap and ported heads do to a neon but it shouldn't be that much.

Also remember that the A/C robs considerable amount of power from our engine, plus you had a pasenger.

Either way it is weird that he is pulling on you during your sweet spot (2nd to 3rd gear).

Then again maybe you had a TL that was made on a monday.:p

Don't sweat it, it's only a neon.:o

Watch for those Neons, there are guys doing all types of things to them. I'm not surprised. I've seen a 1998 civic coupe beat a 2000 corvette! Anything is possible.

yeah but man, it's a ****ing neon. the ACR is suposed to run like 15.5 quarter mile and like 7.3 0-60.. but it wasnt a ACR.. it looked like those 16sec neon.. sure it had ported heads and exhaust and tranny but ****. i thought id rape his a$$.

oh well i guess that's why i ordered headers..

I`m gonna show my age here! I used to have a `40 Ford coupe with a highly modded `56 Olds OHV V-8 installed. When I wasted guys driving their daddy`s ` Chevvy, I would only admit to having exhaust and a lightened flywheel. Point is, some folks just don`t tell the truth!

After some sick shyt i saw last night/early this morning, i made a promise to myself that i will never race on the street again. dont even worry about being beat cuz racing is stupid and shouldn't be done on the street. esp with a 4 door family car.

i saw his engine... so he was telling the thruth. and i could see nothing.. no headers, no intake.. nothing else than ported heads, tranny, and some kind of exhaust but im not sure..


BTW' does A/C make noticable difference?

haha, don't sweat it... Heres the deal - The guy paid a lot less than you paid for a domestic POS!. What does this mean? IT MEANS HE SPENT A LOT LESS THAN YOU ON HIS CAR, THUS, HE HAS TONS OF MONEY TO SPEND ON MODS!!!

Its simple economics man... I used to smoke neons all day long street racing around town. THEN THE SRT CAME OUT!! Since then I have chilled out until I modify some more. He could have had high performance gaskets good for another 5-7 HP, bored out throttle body, high flow MAP sensor, bigger injectors - even a stealth install of nitrous!@!

Just cuz you can't see it doesn't mean he isn't lying to your face.

Plus theres the weight factor...

Takes a lot of power for sure..I wish I knew how much. But just try it out, stop at a light and go with and without AC on. Or if you're accelerating far enough, start with it off/on and then switch and you can feel it. Well, I can feel it.

My dealer told me 20 to 25hp if the A/C is running "full auto". Which is a fair amount of HP. My dad (a car nut) once told me "up to 20% of power" .. but that was when he was tinkering with numerous Shelby's, MG's and Triumphs, so i have no idea how that percentage would sit with our little TL's

that's funny. i wouldn't sweat it...remember, you drive a TL...not a race car. if someone beats me in my TL, well, it's b/c they should... now if someone beats me in my cobra...umm, wait, that doesn't happen

I believe a/c only takes 10% of power. were you full throttle? remember Acuras/Hondas make power at high rpm's. Manual transmission cars also put down more power as they lose energy due to friction. You also make it sound like his was an automatic then converted to manual. If he kept he engine, you have even more to be ashamed of. Manual engines came stock with 150 hp for neons. Automatics with their magical 3 speed auto came with 132 hp. Ported heads don't add much. if he had an intake, headers, free flow exhaust (not just a fart tip), changed the clutch, lightened the flywheel and drove well, then you can't help that!

i didnt mean he had an auto and switched to stick. i meant he put some different better geared (chrysler) tranny..

but anyway.. when i get my headers im gonna show him what my car can do :p

Doesn't the A/C cut off at WOT? Also, you are in a regular TL, not a TL-S, right? You also have all this neon crap in your car and a passenger that just adds dead weight. The Neon is a 15 second car too so if the guy ported his heads he could run with you, no problem. Heads are usually where you can make the biggest airflow improvements.

Power to Weight, and traction are everything, not how much you spent. a 2.4L neon Will own the **** out of a slow ass TL. TLS are not fast. End of Story.

Excuse me noob? Why don't you do some reading on the subject of how you make power in an engine. Its well known that when engines are assembled from the factory they are not assembled with matched gaskets. They are cookie cutter gaskets that are stamped out of a huge gasket roll. These cookie cutter gaskets are not matched to the engine perfectly so horsepower can be gained by trimming them to match cylinder wall, ect.

If you have ever rebuilt an engine from scratch(and you haven't )you would know that you can gain an easy 5-7 HP by trimming all the gaskets to match to optimize airflow and such.

5-7 HP on a 120HP (or whatever) engine by trimming the gasket?? Wow, that gasket must be really covering the opening. Luckily my cars don't have gaskets covering the air path. :wow:

ya @cUr@-TL i here ya i went up against a neon ..i beat him but it seems that more and more people are moding neons...like AK_MOBBER said earlier he only paid 20k for his ride lots left for mods i drive a 2003 A-spec and one of the boyz down here has headers, mod chip, exhaust, and recently installed Nos..he wants to go with me..i am a little weary any thought. i think his car is a 95 or 96.... Also to add on what badazzTL was saying i am a Paramedic and see first hand what racing can do ..be carefull out there and make sure you wear your seatbealt...
