Other than price, is there a big difference in ride and handling when using:
225/45/17 or 225/40/18
and would the tires rub with either size if the car was lowered with Comptech springs?
Thanks

i don't think there's that much of a ride difference between 17's and 18's
i don't think it'll rub with your set up and comptech springs
------------------
00' Acura 3.2TL Nighthawk Black Pearl
- 18's Lowenharts LGM Chrome (3 piece)
- 225/40 NT555
- Factory Kit
- Factory Spoiler
- ordered Apexi N1 WS coilovers =D 1 more week!

When I got my car lowered, I also had my 18"s put on with 225/40R18's.
the ride got harsher.
Just recently I put my stock wheels back on and wow, its noticably cushy-er. Road imperfections are muted, road noise is down. Granted my grip sucks, but just a heads up.
I think the ride quality suffers more from the tire sidewall than from the more agressive spring rate.
What 17"s are you looking into and how much do you want to spend? I think 45 series sidewalls would be a tad better than 40. I myself am pretty uncomfortable at times with my 18"s on a pothole infested road with 40 series sidewalls.
Another thing to consider is that 17"s are going to be lighter in general than 18"s. Lighter = better pickup, especially felt at low speeds, when you have the inertia to overcome.
As far as the difference in handling, I would say that 17"s would be fine just as 18"s are. Sidewall flex would be more prominent with the 17"s but still vastly superior to the stock wheel/tire combo. The Z rated rubber is what's most important.
