100K trade in
100K trade in
my warranty almost up, I decided to get back into something that definitely wouldn't cost me more then I planned and wouldn't leave me stranded. Lately I've had more then my share of problems that were (mostly) covered under my extended warranty.
So, rather then take on the risk of a high mileage car, I traded up to a white 02 s type from my 99 P. WoooHOOOO.
Now, most people would ask, "if you were having trouble, why did you buy the same car?" and the answer is: Ed Voyles Acura. They have treated me very well and, frankly, my car was still relatively dependable. Its just that I want perfect. For perfect, you'd better get a low mileage car.
So... I no longer have to be envious of all you s-typers out there, yo!

Are the replacement transmissions different or just not broken yet?
So I was tearing into my new TL to really get a handle on the difference between my old P and my new S... and then I felt it. At first I thought, "surely, that's my imagination. They MUST have a test for making sure they aren't selling certified cars with bad transmissions." But a little while later, the all too familiar racing before third gear and then searching for shifts after the red light. I made sure it happened at least a dozen times before I called my salesman and told him, "uh, I think this car has a bad tranny."
He, of course, said they'd take care of it. He apologized. I read the tranny thread again tonight. Half the people say that Acura has not done anything design-wise to eliminate recurrance of the transmission failure. However, I distinctly remember reading that the correction (recall) included a new coolant supply tube (or something like that) that increased the fluid to third gear. I also thought I'd read that all new transmissions included this upgrade and were not succeptable to this problem.
Anyone got the real facts? I understand that a lot of people got several trannies before the recall but have people continued to have multiple failures of transmissions installed AFTER the recalls?
thanks

addendum:
I missed the sticky. It indicates the trannies are improved. The recall added an oil jet to supply more fluid to the gear that was failing. Now I just want to know what experience has been for transmissions installed since the recall. I gues that's silly as few people will have put more then 10000 miles on it and even the defective design heldup for that long
So I guess I'll get my new trannsmission and enjoy the car as if Acura never screwed it up. If it dies again, I'll let them replace it again. I probably won't keep the car past warranty, however. Pity. But, then again, except for tranmission, What a car!

I went through 4 transmissions in my 01 cl s type and the last one was after I received the cooling tube. I traded in that car and got full trade in value of 10,800 with 93k miles. I have an 05 TL now and they claim the transmission is not the same - we'll see.
Oh god tell me you didn't buy the White 2002 TL-S/Navi at Ed Voyles!
That car has been in a "severe" accident according to carfax and had airbags deploy. I checked on this car and ran it a few weeks ago.
Edit: And yes, it was still "certified".
Edit again: VIN ends in 58693 for the one that's been involved in the "severe" accident.

I don't suppose you checked the non navi '02? I assumed certified cars were not in major accidents. Silly me.
If your production sequence number (last digits of VIN) isn't 58693 then you're okay, but no, I didn't check the non-navi that I remember. If I did, it must've been okay because I distinctly remember the white TL-S/Navi and its record of airbag deployment in a "Severe" frontal collision.
It's probably not supposed to be certified - but car dealers are sneaky.
And it probably didn't drive right because of the accident.
