1/4 mile times?

I went to the track today with my 99 TL and ran a 16.9, 16.6, and a 16.4. I am all stock excpet for a short ram intake. The weater was 75 degrees and 100% humidty. I thought a stock TL gets somewhere in the 15's. Any suggestions what was wrong? Also, wut did u guys do in the quarter mile?

well, what were your trap speeds? I'm new to the TL community, but I'm pretty familiar with 1/4 mile, and running cars in general. In 75 degree weather, you should be getting way faster than mid to high 16's. If your trap speeds are real low (80's) then your car isnt running right (could be any number of things, retarded timing due to knock sensors, tranny slipping, or many other possibilities). If the trap speeds are where they should be (guessing ~91 for TL-P) then your car is making all the up top power and you're having some serious launching issues it would seem

after each run i would pull off the track and back in the line with my hood pooped to cool the engine. there was about a 20 minute wait before each run so i think it had time to cool. my first run i just slammed it and it felt like it took forever to hit vtec and pull. on my 3rd run i eased into it and then slammed it and got my best time of 16.4. i think if i ease into it a little longer and had less humidty i would be in the 15's. another question is what is the stock 99 tl supposed to do in the 1/4 mile?

Yea that was me you were talking to. Your tires are part of the problem. With a 2.6 - 2.7 60' you had to be spinning. I pulled my best time that night, 13.71 at 104 mph. If you can go next Thursday or Friday, ill be spraying my car for the first time at the track. We will lower your tire pressure a little and see if you can get that 15.?. Im trying to get a 12.9 next week with spray.

with i/h/e/p i was gettin around 15.5. the guys said the high elevation was cause for cars to be slower tho.
i was pretty disappointed, was expecting at least 15.0.

your 0-60ft suck .. you should be able to do 2.3 0-60ft ... each 0.1 you gain on 0-60ft give your about .2 at the end .. so 16.4 will be more like 15.6 ... and shift in ss mode at about 6800rpm.. for the start brake torke between 1500-2000rpm ..

move the shifter a click to the left when your in d4. this is SS, when your at the top of the redline, push up to upshift. This will make your times a bit faster.

i dont think the tranny shift faster.. in auto mode the tlp shift at about 6300rpm .. and in tiptronic you can go to 6800 rpm .. this is good to take advantage of air intake/headers..

Maybe the track just wasn't prepped well, which happens all the time.
I ran my bone stock '01 TL at the track 2 weeks ago for the first time and ran a 15.7 at 89 mph with a 2.2 '60 foot using the SS shift.

hopefully i'll be at the New England Dragway in NH a week from today to see what my car can do. With a well prepped track (and it usually is) I've pulled 2.1 60's with my old maxima (auto tranny), hopefully can keep the TL in the 2.2 range. If anyone lives nearby, should come that night. Always a good time, and as of the last time i went its only like $10 or 15 to run your car all night.
I have a post going in the performance section and have seen some responses that TL-S with H/I can only pull ~14.8 @ 94. I'm hopeful of 14.5 at closer to 100 after seeing people's dyno's of headers and intake (close to 300 crank hp). But we'll see!!

At 3750lbs, I was running 14.7 with CAI and headers.
Another TLS was running thermoblock and really light weight wheels and closer to 3500lbs and got 14.5 with traps in the 98's. Mine were 96-97

- Also, the times that you see in magazines are attained after beating the car a lot more than you want to do.
- 16.4 for a '99 TL is not bad at all.
- I say gate shift gets the most out of our cars, next SS and last D5.
- If you are going to leave it in D, I know on my TLS I can go about 105mph, so depending on how high (MPH) you can go in 3rd, I leave it in D3. Very few (againstallodds1 is one of the exceptions) if any TLs will do 100 mph or more on the 1/4 mile.
- Practice and learning to master you take off will improve you times. Traction is a whole different story, good tire will help a lot.

My post from 2/21/2006 on this board:
14.93ET @ 94.07Mph for the TL-S
Since I’m in the process of building my 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 clone FAST Factory Appearing Stock Tire car, and the weather was outstanding a couple of Sundays ago; at 8:00PM it was 51 degrees, 31% humidity with a barometer reading of 30.27 making for a Density Altitude of -868, I just had to take my wife’s 2003 TL-S to the track. The car is in perfect condition with just 21,000 miles on the clock, a fresh 5W-20 Castrol SYNTEC with a Honda S2000 filter and the air filter blown out. I also topped off the tank with about 7 gallons of 93Octane.
Anyway, the weather was perfect and the track was sticking. With the VSA off I could just chirp the tires. I really wanted a 14 second time slip out of this car and after a cool down was able to produce one! The car weighted 3705Lbs with me and mostly a full tank of fuel. My horsepower calculator says 240.71RWHP using the 3705Lbs and the 94.07Mph.
R/T 60’ ¼ Mph Comments
.254 2.365 15.405 91.88 First pass in Drive stab from idle, no cool down dismal 60’ & 1/4
.003 2.294 15.089 93.13 Nice light! Manual shifting PB to 2000Rpm Dismal 60’
.162 2.305 15.058 93.18 Consistent, Manual shifting PB to 2000Rpm Dismal 60’
.069 2.345 14.933 94.07 Another nice light, Manual shifting PB to 2000Rpm after cool down
Comments:
The 60’ in an automatic TL is a joke. I was able to power brake to 2000Rpm and just chirp the tires on launch. I bet my Accord 2.4L 5-speed manual will out 60’ the TL-S! Once the car gets moving, it pulls ok and the 240.71RWHP is an outstanding number showing that Honda seems to under rate the horsepower ratings of its motors.
If we get another outstanding night with the Density Altitude below 500’, I’ll be taking my Accord to the track shooting for a 15.80ET. I can’t waiting for my Duster to be finished. I’m shooting for 11.80’s @ 119Mph.
