03 type-S

Looking at purchasing an 03. Anyone have high mileage? Is the trany issue fixed on the 03? I plan on putting 150K on it. My 95 GSR has 145 and its time to bale out. Tired of putting brakes in it. Damn calipers get dirty and stick burning out the brakes. I'm just tired of bringing to the shop and I want a TL for 25K or less. Any advise would be appreciated!
Just so everyone knows, this GSR has been a great car and always fun to drive. I just don't have the time to work on it.

PS. Anyone loking to buy a GRS Blk on Blk with all maintenance records for around 3500?
The body has a dent in the driver door so it is not perfect.
Thanks,
Lance

More and more '03 models (the later batch without the extended warranty, supposedly with the fix) are dropping transmissions now as they rack up the miles. I'm just counting the days until mine goes out.

Mine didn't come with the extended warranty, and the dealership assured me that the transmission problem was fixed on my car. Because they knew then and only then I would get the car. So I hoped that the fellow '03 drivers won't have transmission problems, as it will be a good indicator for my car, but no such luck.

But not all of them are having transmission trouble -- some are problem-free and last 100k+ without any trouble.

Not sure if your build date of 2/03 is accurate for the start of Acura tranny updates. My build is 12/02 and supposidly has the update and is not covered with the extended warranty......Which really sux. Makes me paranoid to keep the car past 50K.

not good

Thanks for the prompt posts! 111 views overnight! Thats a good number! As good as yotatech forums!
Anyway, I really don't like the sound of the tranny issues because I can only imagine what that must cost to fix due to the tiptronic feature. Don't flame me but I test drove an 04 V6 EX Accord. It was nice, very smooth and felt quite fast. Comsumer Reports tested 0-60 in 6.2! I was shocked at the TSX 6-speed at 7.9! Whats up with that? Due to the tranny issues and price, I was thinking about a TSX 6 but that is very slow for an acura! TSX package is no comparision to the accord(TSX being better with regard to looks and handling) but 7.9? It is still a nice car though
Oh well, I might have to dump $$ into the GSR and wait for my top pick TL -6 speed to drop in price. I have been lurking around this forum looking at the tranny issues. Did a seach and ! Thats alot of problems over the model years. Acura has some of the best products on the market but too bad they are slow learners when it comes to fixing an obvious and serious reliability problem.
Thanks
And again... great forum!

Careful now...Keep in mind that the Accord has some transmission issues of its own. I haven't heard of any with the TSX. Just do your homework before you plunk down your cash. Checking out these boards on the TL is a wise move. Do the same on your other choices (TSX & Accord) as well. Kudo's to you for being an educated buyer.

Not sure about that. Anyway, thanks again for the input. Going to fix the GSR anyway now. Needs brake pads and rotors. I got a friend to help put them in and I hear the front axle doesn't need to come out to remove the rotors so that will be easier than expected. I'm jusr sick of sticking calipers on this car. The rods that the caliper slides on gets dirty and sticks causing the brake to wear out. It seems to be just the back. Hope I don't need a new caliper.
I can see those new 04's around just putting on the miles for me... soon
