Question 03 TLS-does it have tranny prob. if it made in Sept 02

Hi everyone,

I just brought a 03 TLS, I also can pick by myself from the dealer lot. after I picked, I figured out that it made in Sept. 02. By now I do have chance to change to the 03 production if they available

Anybody know if this is OK to made in 02

Thanks

You're in for a wild ride.

Dun worry about the tranny man, just enjoy the car.

I can't remember the exact number the dealership told me, but I was told that the first ~2500 cars built for the '03 model year had the problem. That may be a bunch of BS but I thought I would share what I was told. Anyway, Sept. '02 would be way past 2500 cars.

Just listen to "this is me". Don't worry about it.

Is there a way to tell what number your car was for that year?

I would also like to know how you find the date of production for our TL-S or the production number. Can one tell from the VIN #?

Thanx!

Keep in mind that I don't really know if that build number statement is true, but it was what I was told by the dealership (service manager), back in November.

The build number is the last 6(?) digits of your VIN #. Mine is an '03 with last six VIN numbers of 001832, hence, build number 1832 for the '03 model year.

Hope this helps (and hope the ~2500 number is true!) They did also add that there could still be failures after the first 2500, but they said that they would not be related to the "known transmission problem." After thinking, I think it was cars after the first 2200 (it definitely was not over 2500 though.) My tranny failed back in November, so my memory is a little rough!!

The one I'm picking up this Thursday is #066796. I'm breathin' a little easier now.

I do see that preceeding numbers are A56893A. Could those numbers indicate the year and the digits before that some how signify the month, week, hour??

Once you guys own the car, sign up for the Owner's Link on acura.com and put in your VIN number. That will tell you if you qualify for the 100k mile extended tranny warranty. If you do qualify, then you could possibly experience problems, if you don't, then your VIN is outside the range and you should be clear.

If you don't want to do it online you can also call Acura and get the same results.

My VIN ends with 007397 and I got the Letter/Extended Waranty.

It was built in March of '02...

I did sign up for the Ownership thing and the website said that my car did not qualify for the extended waranty on the transmission. Guess that's a good thing, huh?

My last six VIN# digs are 020672. Bought the car end of May '02. I signed up with the Owner's Link site a long time ago and it stated (& still states) that my car IS NOT included on the 100k extension tranny warranty.
So, my car's VIN# is inside the range of the suppossedly area of car's that may or may not have problems, but I surelly hope that the info. that BJsTLs got from the sales rep. & how to find the production line # based on the VIN# are all incorrect, for my sake (no disrespect to you BJsTLS... I just want no "headaches" down the road, if u know what I mean)...

No disrespect taken at all! The last digits in the VIN are definitely the build number, but like I said, I can't verify the truth of the statement, but it did come from the service manager. I'm just a messenger

ScotTLTypeS, I doubt they could identify to a specific number how many were in the "known problem" range so I'm sure they gave themselves a healthy "buffer zone" to cover their butts. I will call my friend at Acura tomorrow to see if he can find out what they based that extended warranty letter on..... No matter what my build number is....the extended warranty is a plus!! I will keep you posted if my friend gives me any useful info.....

Oops! My BAD... U wrote on an earlier post that the range # was for the 1st 2,500... I didn't compare the #'s right, as u saw, I'm in the early 20,000. Gosh, I'm seeing things without even trying.
