03 TL-S W/ NAVI - Replacing Radio Options

I know this topic has been covered a million times but i want to know what is lost when you replace the stock radio with an aftermarket head unit.

I currently have a 03 TL-S with navigation

From what i understand i would only lose the sound fron the navigation and possiby the onstar- both are things i can do without. i want to be able to keep the visual on the nav though.

I thought of just buying the wiring harness from crutchfield for the standard TL-S and my hopes were that i would just have the sound portion from the nav unplugged.

any suggestions would be appreciated and i will keep searching.

thanks

you loose steering wheel controls and audio from the navi. There are adapters made to allow the steering wheel controls to still operate
