03 TL Rear DS Caliper & Brake Hose
Ok, so I get home the other day and back the ol Acura into the garage and smell something burning (not rubber smell) but more like brakes or ceramic smell. I sniff each tire and it's coming from the drivers side rear brake area, no the tire.
So I take it to Midas up the street, he takes my wheel off looks around and says my caliper was locked in place because of a bad break hose. He put my car back together and now I haven't smelled it since in the last two weeks.
Should I just go ahead and get it changed anyway or don't worry about it until it starts smelling again? Or take it to the dealer.
I'm really out of options when it comes to mechanics around my area. Haven't been able to trust not ONE of them!
The Dealer has never done me wrong (except a few incidences of adding extra stuff to repair that really I could have gone without- i.e. engine brackets and spark plug seals).
Bottom line, I have spent $5,600 since November 2010 in REPAIRS alone on this car and that does not include the new tranny I bought in 2008. I'm sick to death of throwing money into this car almost every single month!!!

Don't know how a hose could possibly have caused it. Sounded like the caliper was stuck.

Any chance you drove with the park brake on?? happens to the best of us~
those are mini drum brakes INSIDE the rear brake rotors

While I wouldn't call it common, hoses do occasionally develop restrictions. Usually, it's internal deterioration or mounting brackets rusting and constricting the hose. It will act exactly like a seized caliper. The quick way to determine if it's a caliper or hose is to open the bleeder. If the wheel spins free with the bleeder open, it's not the caliper. This is probably what the tech did on your car. It's very likely to cause the caliper drag again; you probably haven't stopped hard enough to overcome the restriction yet.

Never heard of a brake hose causing that. Sounds like a sticking caliper. Do what TLer trash said & go from there. Any reason you couldn't just get some reman. calipers &/or hoses & replace them yourself? Esp. since you haven't found a good mech. yet. It isn't that hard, you'll learn something & save some cash too. If there is a hose problem may as well repl. w/ ss lines.
