02 TLS take two, here we go again

Well guys me and the wife got another TL-S lol couldn’t stay away for to long haha. Gonna be doing a very similar build as far as style but stick with the auto for her since this one already has the av6 trans swapped to it and she is picking a much better color than the tan that the last one was.

most of the parts have already arrived and we are starting the interior tomorrow. Gonna be focusing a lot on keeping the car quiet on the inside, for long road trip style travel and great sound quality system as well.

this one is silver and she has chosen to stay in the grey colors for a good color choice. But now for some pics

Also has the factory lip kit and full black interior.

Here are most of the parts

went with the function and form type 2’s again cause they were awesome last time as well

Went with stop tech front slotted rotors and blank rears with stop tech stainless line and pads.

Using the truhart camber kits this time around. Looking forward to using the fronts a lot, had inguals last time and hoping for a tiny bit more camber this go round

Super solid construction on these

As always saving the best part for last. Wheels are 18x9.5 +20 close to last time so this should be easy to fit and going with a 215-40-18 tires.

And this was the last one I built for reference 👌🏻

Here are some pics from today’s interior detailing/clean and the sound damping material

Well after this pic I started laying down the dynamat sound damping stuff but forgot to snag some pics oops

Both sides were pretty dirty

But a little cleaning goes along way lol

Under this blue matting is the dynamat material. Both these layers made the carpet a much tighter fit haha but still got it to fit correctly

All back together now and ready to do some more testing soon

We did a few db tests before all the sound matting stuff to see what a few different stages would do in decreasing the noise floor of the car and making it much more comfortable to drive.
first test was sitting still which came out to about 48dB no music playing etc
second test was 50mph driving and it came out to around 66.2 dB
third Test was at 70mph driving and that came in at 71.4 dB

after what we did today the sitting still dropped down about 2-3 dB and was sitting around 45-46 dB which is pretty decent.

gonna finish up the other 2 test tomorrow and post the results, see you guys then!

Midori,

Nice find! Looks like a new steering wheel as well.

What are the details of the vehicle if you don't mind? Mileage, mods(besides the AV6), price?

the mileage is right around 181k, I think we are the third owner of the car. We got it for a good deal from someone that saw the last TL we built and we contacted him about this one he had as a extra vehicle. But my wife was super happy to get one with the factory lip kit.

the mods are gonna be the interior black wood trim swapped to the oem optional cherry wood on black as seen in the pics from yesterday.
doing brakes front and rear and possibly brembos later
coilovers and camber kits
prolly going the same ride height as the last one.
we were thinking about doing sway bars but u sure atm
as far as engine it’s all stock and prolly gonna stay that way for now just gonna be doing a timing belt and water pump and other small maintenance things to get it running even better.
were are gonna try to fab up some rails to fit some recaros, to work with the power seat section on the seat pan to at least go forward and back with power.
other than that we are gonna do a sound system through our work using all Focal audio and amps with a custom trunk setup to top it all off

that’s a mouth full lol

Finally had some good weather today so will be working on the car some more. Pics will follow for tomorrow

and to finish off the test from last week
the new 50mph test was a whole 4 dB quieter and the 70mph test was sitting around 69-70 dB so a solid -4db around town and -2dB on the highway. But still have the trunk to do and all the doors and roof as well. So with this in mind I’m guessing prolly another 3-5 dB gain after everything is done. But will continue to update and I get more down and installed

Alright guys got all the rest of the stuff done today and yesterday. Modified the original power seat to have custom rails to bolt to the factory brackets. It sits a tad higher than I would like in the front side of the seat but the back is pretty even to the factory cushion. I might change it up a bit later and try to get it to sit lower but my wife loves it and it’s her car so that’s all that matters lol.

We did do the brakes and coilovers with the camber kits today as well and she is super low so definitely going to adjust but ran out of daylight, gonna do a few test drives over the next couple of days to help the coilovers settle a bit then get the tires mounted and adjust all the height and camber then to where we want it.

now for some pics!

Ya, I'm on board with you... Needs to be raised a tad. Otherwise, you're on course for a decent round of tasteful upgrades. Good luck

Well not much going on this weekend. Worked on rolling the front and rear on the driver side to fit one of the old wheels, cause there are the same specs as the new ones. And I don’t think I’ll have to do much in the adjustment department. Looks pretty close to the last time lol but I believe the front camber kit allowed me to get a little bit more this time around. Drove it around the block (still not aligned) and had no rubbing or anything from the wheels so that’s good but now for a few pics

Finally got the wheels all set up and raised the car about 3/4 on a inch all around. love the way it sits now and it’s ready to be aligned and get the ac checked out tomorrow. Then we can start working on the interior some more and get a radio in it and start on some of the audio work for the coming weeks!

and now some pics

Also changed on the bumper for this one that doesn’t have any cracks or broken tabs but seems to be a few shades off on the silver lol

also need to get some color ideas from you guys. Not sure what to paint it just yet. We were thinking maybe a red to dark red or possibly staying in the grey family but let us know you thoughts or suggestions!!

Hit it with that Lexus burgundy we're seeing on the newer models! What a sexy color, it'll go well with the build

Good color but over played in my opinion.

My vote: Ametrin Metallic

Wowsers, I just bought a 2003 TLS and after removing all of the trim we found the previous owner perhaps sprayed the entire dash and center console with pepsi or something everything was sticky. Luckily my boyfriend, saw the potential and offered the guy 1800, he originally wanted 2600 and we agreed on 1900 and I couldn't be happier. Question for you, when you remove the seats will you have to reset any warning lamps? I really want to shampoo the carpet. Surprisingly the rear seating and floor area are very clean, but the front carpet and floor mats are pretty disgusting to say the least. The CD changer had an error code and I must say, taking my center console and dash apart was oddly satisfying and allowed me to really deep clean everything which makes me really happy to get in my car now.

You're an inspiration, I really want to shampoo my carpets and that will really make me feel better.

When you paint the whole vehicle are you also painting all the undersides and jambs as well?
