02 tl type s code 84

Hi guys I'm new on this forum, I just get an 02 Acura tl type S and I have to say I love it when I brought this car the old owner said that the car was in small accident and blow one tire, so he took it to the shop and replace all new tires, balanced and alignment, when I get the car all the lights on the dashboard was on, (srs, vsa, /!\ ) so I reset srs light and codes from abs computer but my /!\ light stays on so I took it for a ride and the vsa light come back on after short period, check codes again and 84 code comes up, any one have any suggestions in how to fix this? Also the car sometimes and only sometimes has heavy vibration under load and only under load doesn't matter what speed I'm going, the harder I press the gas the worse is the vibration, and if I let go the vibration goes away, my motor mounts are shot, I have new pads and rotors so, anyways my main concern right now it's that code thank you very much guys

you can google the code and tell us what it says it means- they are clues= not diagnosis

your front and rear motor mounts are vacuum boosted- failure will cause rough running prob, as well as numerous probs from bad mount itself--
engine movement causes other parts to be out of position,,,

front and pass side mount most common failure
ck VENDOR list at top of pages, we have a few dealers that cut us a major price break,,prestige acura is one and a new dealer sponsor you see the pop up for- 25% off plus another 5-10 for ziners
that front mount retails for 150! and you want the OE vac mount

accident damage-is the car a salvage or rebuilt title?

you can clear all codes from the ecu by pulling the CLOCK fuse on end of dash -passenger side- open door to see it,,a minute removed is fine - thats the secret backup power to the ecu and forces a clear and full system test-relearn

There is no 84 odb2 code.

Go to AutoZone and have them scan the code.
If I was to guess it sounds like you have a bad coil pack. I had a very similar situation a few weeks ago and that was the culprit.

But I'll wait till you report the code back to us.

Thanks for the replys guys, the car has not stored codes on the ecu, all my codes are stored on the abs computer, car runs perfect, no tranny issues or engine issues, just the yellow light all the time with the symbol /!\ on it. I pull those codes jumping pin 6 and 9 on the obdII connector then you can see the stored codes on your abs computer, i erase the codes and drove it for a little bit and the code come back on, i was reading online and seems like the vsa sensor neutral position memorization but thats for the rsx so i dont know if is the same code for my car, the car is no salvage, the accident was small, but hard enough to blow the tire, so after the alignment those lights went on,

we dont mess with abs codes much,,but I will give my best guess on an accident car
Wheel speed sensor is out of place or damaged
happens during brake job done poorly--can happen in a crash for sure

can you get ABS operation in braking--tested wet or on gravel,,?
will the traction control work to prevent wheelspin below 16mph (25kph)
if you stand on it in wet conditions,,on painted lines wet etc
Should rapidly apply and release brake to speeding wheel,--test from full stop

if those dont work it points to a wheel speed sensor
Other major part failures are a rarity

Abs is working fine, /!\ light is on as soones I turn key on even after reset abs codes, vsa is not working and the vsa light come on after short period, if turn key off and on vsa light goes off then come back on after little while, what I been reading is that after alignment you have to adjust the sensor on the steering column, when I jumped those pins and press the vsa button following the instructions the abs code 84 comes on....speed sensors are ok, already check them all, I was wondering if some one has the service manual to see the procedures to read those codes and reset them, thank you

only a few here have a real service manual

I have never heard of anything extra done with an alignment, my 01 has been aligned...

What you describe fits a bad wheel speed sensor,,be it failed, out of position , the ring is dirty that it reads from.. or similar
Look for the easy things before digging deep!!

(the abs working has me stumped,,why no traction control but braking control?

A brake specialty shop will have the special abs code reader,, that normal types cant access..if you decide a shop needs a peek at it

speed sensors ckd= how? with multi meter? pulled on wires?

tried a master reset by pulling batt POS cable and grounding it to frame?
or basic method: remove neg cable from batt for a minute (same as pulling clock fuse but you have to enter radio security code))

Those codes won't go away unplugging the battery, I follow this
1) Make a shortcut between 4 pin and 9th
2) Press with your foot on the brake pedal and switch on the ignition.
3) Wait for the ABS lamp to turn off and then remove your foot from the brake pedal.
4) Wait for the ABS lamp to turn on and press with your foot on the brake pedal again.
5) ABS lamp should turn off, then remove your foot from the brake pedal.
6) Wait for two flashes of ABS lamp. If it flashes it means that errors are erased.

Check the errors, not removing the shortcut - just turn the ignition on, if ABS lamp do not flashes, so no errors are in memory.

Now the main part.

VSA Neutral position setting

Do not touch the brake pedal anymore.

1) Make a shortcut of 9th pin to chassis (i have used a bolt on a door hinge )
2) Turn the ignition on, after ABS lamp turns off, shortly press the "VSA off" button
3) After ABS lamp turns on again, shortly press the "VSA off" button.
Now you don't have any codes or it will flash and tells you what code is coming up

wow, you know way more about this subject than I do
Do you know what kind of damage in the accident/crash?

If none of the acura master techs have ckd in, see if you can locate one on a member name search,,acuratech1 would be a good start- send a PM
Many are on vacation this time of year- very slow time at auto shops

Only thing I know on ABS is: for the TL: if a line has been removed or opened, master cyl removed etc, caliper replaced,,the possibilty of air in the abs controller does exist (Ive had it)
The book says do the normal bleed order LF RF RR LR
then test drive
do 2 ABS active stops from 45mph- stand on brakes in a poor traction area- need pedal pumping under your foot
get back up to 45mph and repeat
If the 2nd time had a firmer pedal feel, there was hidden trapped air- now its worked into the normal system
Rebleed all but its usually LF has a few bubbles

Brake Gurus- any tips on ABS issue after minor accident?

I don't know what was the damage, po told me that it was only the tire that blew up, then he replace tires and do the alignment, I don't really know if he lie to me or not, but what I been reading that code means the neutral position sensor has to be reset but I don't know how to do it lol.....

DTC84 is neutral position.

There is a procedure for resetting the neutral position. If that doesn't make the code go away, then there are checks for the lateral acceleration sensor and steering angle sensor.
Possibly one of those sensors was damaged.
