so i finally raced my buddy in his friends a6 4.2
it was at a strip about 1/4 mile. its an exit off the highway and is walled in on both sides, so if somebody screwed up and lost it, at least nobody that wasnt involved could be hurt.

we lined up. i beeped three times and we nailed it. i break-torqued to about 2k rpm, had minimal wheel spin. if you can believe it the kid in the audi actually got a bad launch. anyway, i pulled on him about a car length. at about 45mph i only had a half car length on him then at about 80 he started to pull but i cut off at about 85.

so i guess i took him, but that car is fast. i realised after thet i had my a/c on (idiot) but he did too. i dont know how accurate of a comparison this really was because th whole thing was rushed. but i was happy with the way my car measured up to the audi v8.

i want to go up to the track with him sometime and get a more realistic comparison, but either way it was fun and i still have bragging rights according to who was there.

btw i was in automatic and i took the subs out before the race. i also had about 1/4 tank.

 

A win is a win so congrats! But don't get too used to beating him.

I guess both of you guys having AC on kinda "evened" things out. Leaving AC on while running can do wonders for our cars. My only time at the track, my first run was something like mid to low 15s but I discovered I had the AC on. My best run that same day was was 14.71. I am stock so I would bet that AC can take away atleast 1 full second from your 1/4 mile, if not more. So you're right, the results are off by a little.

 

The 4.2 is quite quick though!

 

4.2 V8 Audi carrying that heavy Quattro system would still keep with a TL...neck to neck I say...:p

 

Interesting comparison.

But the thing is this. Accelleration is the TLS's strongest feature and the Audi's weakest feature. The fact that they were comparable should tell you what kind of vehicle the A6 4.2 is

But then again, you pay big $$$ for it too.
