02 TL modding for MP3 A/V

Hello all,
Noob here. Searched the forums but couldn't find any details on how to mod my stock audio to hook an external jack for my MP3. Tired of cassette adapters and modulators. Really need a DIY hard wired solution.

Does anyone have step by step instructions or links?

Thanks much
Riq

cassette isnt bad at all. been using for a while now. if u want to hide the wire, heres a suggestion.

run the wire along the side of the console and down into the ashtray, then bring the wire up through to the vents right above the navi, or A/c controls then to the top of the dash.

i bought an ebay mount for my mp3 its pretty neat, and only like $15 shipped. ill take pictures tommorow.

There are many products out there than can accomplish what you are looking for. I would suggest the USA SPEC PA11 – HON, which has an AUX input and alost an IPOD hook-up. I Have the PA11-HON@Y version as i have an 3G TL, and it works fantastic, no audio quality loss and it works seamlessy with the factory deck.

There is of course the PIE X3 Unit and FM connectors.

I ran across the DLO Home Ipod Dock the other day and was wonder if it would be possible to some how plug this into the car using a navi to tv convert along with the blitzsafe adapter or somthing. i would give this a try but i'm not sure if modification would be required and my soldering skills are well horrible. sorry about hijacking your thread Riq

Thanks guys, good to be here and was able to pull up lots of posts on blitzsafe and HON. Cassette works good but nothing like CD quality sound. I'm a Zen guy, so I think my only option is thru a jack but I read blitzsafe puts out a lot of hissing. What's your experience so far?

Slightly off-topic, but what I really want to do is tech out the car with an OC, a couple of removable hard drives, headrest monitors and PS3. I want access to my music, games and movies at a touch. Comes in real handy on long trips. Lots of good stuff on Ebay giving me ideas but still doing the cost/benefit analysis.

DO you have factory navi? If so then you can use the av electronic unit that can manage 4 screens with different sources at once.
Even if you don't have factory nav, a carputer would be your best bet. All you would need is the audio adapter.

YOu could do it without any soldering. This is how it would work:

csmeance, unfortunately I don't have navi and really regretting it. Ebay has penty if choices though pricey but good systems are worth the extra buck. Love the diagram, I think it would work well and is a great alternative to a carputer. Serves most of my needs.
