my problem is... if they are smart enough to jack your car's ecu, wont they know how to get around lowjack? ...these are at the very least pros of some caliber...

BTW... wicked story... do you think they have a police scanner, so they knew you called it in after you saw them????

keep in mind too that LoJack is voluntary for the police department. Make sure your local PD have the equipment in their cruisers to receive the signals to track before purchasing it.

[QUOTE=virginTLS;11373409]

looking up at the officer... he already knew what i was going to ask - "sorry, we don't do fingerprints on something small like this. this is san francisco. you got your car back. you should be happy." *shrug
QUOTE]

The officer asked me that they 'do' fingerprints on the car. But this was for something else off topic....

I know something similar where you insert a security chip to start the car. But I think these can still be bypassed but takes a much longer....longer.... time. Does anyone remember what is it called? Is a security chip key device. Insert to start the car, without you cant.

sorry to be negative but you do know they can break into the car put it in neutral by using the shift release and then pushing it to an awaiting tow truck right?

will lojack work if the car is not turned on?

my boi just got his GSR hatch on boost stolen and he had the ravelco also.... they broke the window broke the steering column and then pushed the car to a waiting tow truck a few houses down....

all im saying is before you spend money on things like this, be sure that it will work whether the car is on or off

Yea LoJack will work if the car is not turned on. It's only activated when you call your local PD and report that your car has been stolen. They get your license plate number into the system and if the car is associated with a LoJack car, it will turn on automatically. And when they install LoJack, they don't tell you where they installed it.

wtf? So there's a potential car theft/identity theft ring combined out there in SF and they won't do fingerprints? Didn't SF recently get a new police chief? Looks like that's working out well

That's why thieves steal shit.... because they know as long as they don't get caught red-handed, they're okay.

Hey all!

Hope all is well!

Took the TL into Acura yesterday for that SRS inflator recall... and while chatting w/ the Service Advisor...

It sounds like they've busted a 7-man CL/TL theft ring in San Francisco! Story goes a TL-S with lojack was stolen, and located. The police then did a stakeout, and arrested a 3-man team when they drove ANOTHER stolen TL-S to pick up the parked unit.

3 "master" keys were found, along with hacked ECUs with no immobilizer chips.

the remaining 4 are still at large.

i'm still scared to drive my car :'(

please please everyone be safe out there!

wow. So SFPD did do something after all

Sounds like there was a shady person (or most likely more than 1) working at a dealership?

If they're stealing 2Gs they're in the right place. Is it just me or are there 2G Acuras all over the bay area. I must see at least 5 a day and those are not ones that I had seen previously.
Was your ride lowered or modded in any way that would be obvious to the thieves? Are they targeting modded rides or stock as well?
would be good to know for all of our sakes.
here's to you regaining your sense of security.

I'm pretty sure it's both, but I'm more inclined to saying that they're targeting modded TL's.

my TL's slightly lowered w/ wheels... nothing fancy.

when i brought my car to Acura for a theft diagnostic, Acura said that there were 9 other thefts within that week time span, and that majority of the recovered TLs were stripped to the bone -- most likely for J-swaps (V6 swap into Civic/Integra/Accords)... our HIDs are still in demand... as well as interior trim / seats and whatnots...

this time around chatting w/ the service guy, he said that the police stated that these guys were just joyriding the cars -- my assumption is the chopshop is backed up

i don't really think there's specific targeting involved (of course a tuned car w/ additional parts would turn up more cash for the thieves)... the one thing that i do wonder about is why even bother with automatic transmission cars... when the J-swap requires the 6-speed from the CL-S (sorry CL guys :P)

security... *shrug... frankly after getting your car stolen... you lose quite a bit of faith in society (the thieves, the police)... and you really do realize how easy it is to steal the car. ive thought long and hard on add-on security measures... but frankly for each add-on, there's a disarm that the thieves could use... just adds an additional minute or so of work for them...

as noted... im just scared to drive the car at all now... even during the day im paranoid

im sorry to hear that....even though you got the car back which is amazing, you still must feel violated

someone or something was watching out for you that day you saw your car on the highway...another day or two and it could have been stripped down too.

i don't blame you for being paranoid....if it were me i'd probably try to find some way to park the car inside my room with me and sleep in it
