02+ Keyless compatible with 99 TL-P?

Has anyone managed to get a 2002 (newer looking one) keyless fob to work on a 99-01 TL? I lost mine and my buddy offered to give me his from a 2002 TL-S because he returned the car to the dealer, and thought he lost his original one.

They will not work on a 99-01 since the 99-01 doesn't have memory seat function

Yep, I've also been told by my dealer that there's an actual difference in the relation of the remote/alarm (more so than just the seats - like some other security programming). I've thought about buying a 02-03 fob and a blank circuit board, and taking the pieces out of my fob (00'), then creating a new board that will fit in the 02-03 fob using the components out of my fob. It's a lot of work just to have a different looking fob case. Maybe when I get some free time one weekend I'll try it...
