02-03 TL Type S

I just sold my Accord, and paid off my TL. I will enjoy no payments for a while. But in a year or so, I'm looking into buying a 02-03 TL Type S. I've driven a few. But I'd like to know how happy you guys are with the cars, and what probs may occur, or anything I should know. I'd appreciate it.

I LOVE my 02 TL-S, the only problems I've had with it is the transmission, but that was taken care of right away and *knock on wood, I haven't had any problems yet. in 1-2 years I'll probably be selling mine if you want it. haha.
in 1-2 years, I'd say get the new TL or something else that's out right now that would be a cheaper then.
my $0.02

Yeah I've heard about the trannys being bad. What's up with that, and did you have to replace it?

my TL 2002tl has 62,000 miles and the only problems i had was the tranny. i had it replaced twice. the last time being around 32k. my car is perfect, everything is going fine. i think the tranny issue is fixed also.

I'd buy one all over again if I had to. I am wary of the transmission issue but I'm still on my original one. The dealer service has been top notch and overall I'm very happy with the value and performance of the vehicle.

Honda/Acura's aren't the only ones with the problem. Toyota/Lexus had that problem too. I heard it was actually a problem with the ECU.

If your going to compare fit and finish to your rides your be dissapointed. (I've had a 96 tl 2.5 and a 93 accord lx, I know) but compared to every other 30k-34k $ car(new) with 260 hp and nice luxury amenities there's no compairison TL-S rules.

Love my TL-S...try not to find an early build '03 TL-S (that's where most of the tranny problems are) .. and look out for the TSB recall. Here is a link for it: http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...hreadid=62404.

knock on wood, I love my 02 TL-S so far. A bit of squeeks here and there, but other than that the car's a champ. Great for long road trips, lots of room, looks pretty sharp, and hauls a$$ on the highway.

Leased my '02 TL-S in Sept 01. Recently had the tranny replaced with 22.5 K miles on the car.

The tranny issue applies to 01-03 (and perhaps some years before 01) .. Acura has tried numerous fixes for the tranny .. but it boils down to poor parts .. poor designs .. and poor programming. Read the NHTSA report filed by Honda in the tranny forum to find more about it.

But there are many that feel that Honda has not resolved the program as they are still failing .. but make your own determination.

The failures have nothing to do with driving style either .. the Honda report reflects that.
