**Help** F**ked the oil pan today

Sup guys , I f**ked the oil pan on my 03 TL-S today. I had the car up on the lift and was changing the oil, as I usually do, when I noticed some oil around the drain plug I said to myself oh shyt I must have left it lose last time when I changed the oil. Well after I had all the oil drained I put the drain nut back in and was trying to tighten it when the thing went nuts on me (no pun intended). I pulled it out and to my dismay all the inside of the pan (the thread) was shredded . Went to the local AutoZone and asked for help and they gave me this special nut that is a temporary fix. This nut has got a special head that expands inside the oil pan and you can tighten it from there on. They said its good forever, and I don’t doubt them but I rather have a new oil pan and the peace of mind. My question is where can I get a new oil pan from, I know I can go to the dealership but the closest dealership to me is about 70 miles away . Has anyone of you guys ever been in this same situation? What did you do? Any suggestions and help would be appreciated. thanks.

This happened to me on my Integra, I was pissed and nervous but it lasted untill I got rid of it with no problems I would not worry but if ya feel better a new oil pan is the way to go.

just re thread the current hole (with a tap and die set) and up the oil pan bolt to a larger size.... next time don't tighten it so much it's just an aluminum pan.

Thanks a bunch guys, i was thinking of rethreading the pan myself, i will have the guys at jiffy lube do it tommorow. The manager was very helpful and mentioned that i shall bring the car in tommorow and they will rethread it and put a new drain plug in.

I'm always nervous about rethreading a pan due to metal shavings. Why don't you just leave the "expanding nut" fix on? Seems like another forum member had good experience and it is lower risk.....

why leave a bandaid on? retap it and be done with it. i would have it pulled off to do it though.

I have use the expanding nut fix with no problems once before. It has a smaller bolt inside the larger one right? You never loosen the larger expanding one once it's in, just the smaller one when you drain the oil. Mine worked for years..
If you have it rethreaded, I would think you could do it on the car and once the new larger bolt is in, you can throw a quart of oil in and drain it right away if you are worried about any shavings getting in there. Or even throw a quart in and put a big magnet on the new bolt before removing to draw any shavings to the hole when it is removed. Just some ideas before going through the expense of removing the whole pan..

not much man. if you coat the tap with a heavy grease it will catch most all the possible shavings. being a aluminium pan you cant use a magnet to help get any shavings, but like the above poster said you can pour in oil and flush it out. go to the store and buy acouple quarts of the cheapest oil to flush out with
