Winter tires anyone?
I was in my basement doing some work yesterday and saw my four original wheels sitting in the corner waiting for their winter tires....not that I'm in a hurry for winter to arrive or anything like that!
Anyway, since I plan on using the rims that came with my RL for winter tires, anyone running a winter tire that a 245/50R17 that they are especially happy with? I used Bridgestone LM-22s on my Audi A6 4.2 and they worked great. I'd like to try something different this time around. I heard the Dunlop Wintersport M3s are a good winter tire.
By the way, anyone interested in the tires on my original wheels? They have less than a 1000 miles on them, so they really are "almost like new".
Thanks for you help.

M3's over here. Worked great during the blizzard of 06 here in NY, and during regular driving w/o snow.
Stock Michelins for sale? I'm trying my hardest to burn the hell out of ours so we can switch to something new!

I agree with bkw, my Dunlop Wintersport M3s were outstanding last year ... Good snow & dry road handling. BTW- I noticed a huge difference in the snow when compared to the OEM tires ... Especially in turns.

Well, you've both reinforced the good words I've heard about the Wintersport M3s. Winter tires aren't about "going forward". The RLs AWD makes that happen. They are about stopping and turning on snow which is the really important stuff if you want to drive in snow and not have a complete white-knuckle experieince. How were they on road noise compared to the OEM Michelins? I assume you bought them in the 245/50R17 size, not some other. Did you buy them at a local tire store/chain or from TireRack? I hope I can buy them locally and get some credit for the stock Michelin tires, otherwise, I've got to try and unload those turkeys myself. Sorry, nothing against Michelins per se. I'm just not an "all season" tire guy because I hate compromises and all season means they compromised on something!
