Wheels

I came across a set of wheels that I actually want to buy. Finally!!

Now I am unsure if the rim would fit.

This is the rim

The specs
Offset: 40mm
Backspacing: 6.33"
Bolt Pattern: 5-120

This is specs for a BMW 3 series

Everything looks similar for the Acura RL
I looked at Gus rims and his offset is 35mm with the same bolt pattern.

Is there something I am missing?

That's a great-looking wheel. Is it 18"?

What does the manufacturer say? You cannot tell from these specs alone. As you know, it is the unknown area behind the spokes that counts.

Get a fitment guarantee

Don't forget to get the hubcentric rings that take it from BMW size down to 64.1 mm

RL's have massive 4 piston calipers making rim choices dificult for one piece rims. One piece rims with "big lips" usually have the spokes pushed to far back that hit the caliper.

I dont think they are ugly, but I think Blazing likes them multispoke wheels.

Regardless of what car the wheels may be designed for, you need to pay attention, as you know, to that unknown area behind the spokes shown in yellow.

Knowing the backspacing is not enough information. Backspace is the distance from a wheel's mounting surface to the back edge of the wheel (usually measured in inches) and like offset (usually measured in millimeters) that does not give you the spacing available for the calipers.

Have you considered RonJon wheels? This wheel has a similar style to what you are looking at, yet it fits perfectly without a doubt:

i'm curious, blazin'.... since you have pulled of your big 20s and gone back to 17" wheels...what do you think of the ride quality differences????

i hear people say "oh, 19s ride almost as nice as 17s?" or "20s ride fine"... but often times those are people who put on the big tires and can't admit they ruined the ride...or they've had them so long that they honestly forget what a smooth ride is.... since you switched back... you did switch bad dindt you??? what do you think?

is it just a "little" or is it a BIG difference in smoothness and bump absorbtion... or can yo not tell b/c you are dumped on H&Rs???

I would also be interested in what you can tell, if anything, of the weight difference between the stock setup and the 20's. IIRC, you said the wheels alone weighed about 40 lbs each?

I'd really LOVE to see this wheel on an RL in the 18" size.

the only pic on your gallery or on this site is in 20" size.. and to be brutally honest, it looks horrible. i know it's a "look" that some people are into..but to me it looks like giant pizza pans bolted to the side of the car.. the wheels look way too big for the car and out of place...

you know how clown shoes look huge on the clown... you get my point..

anyway. slap those on an RL in 18" sizes.... and snap some pics and upload them...

here it goes.

I live in NYC...

I am never going back to big wheels.

It really ruined the overall ride.

Now the ride is smooth and gas mileage is back up

There is a HUGE difference in ride quality.

Complete win.

What makes this situation also a complete win is that the 3G TL wins look so sweet with the RL dropped with Aspec kit.

The only thing I hate is that the car is lower to the ground and I scrape alot more

is there really much of a difference between the 17" RL wheels and the 17" TL wheels? they almost look identical to me..

what exact size tire are you running on the OEM 17" TL wheels?

are you running H&R springs on the car now, or aspec kit, or H&R springs ON the aspec struts???

sounds like once you swapped back from your huge wheels to 17s.. you really noticed the ride qualiity improve!??!!

it's nice t ohave a plush ride, eh?? that's what the RL is all about - SWEET LUXURY...

even with 17s... the thing frickin' rips through turns.... i just put on Michelin Pilot Sprort A/S+ and the ride quality is barely firmer..but HOLY SNAP! it sticks like CRAZY on ramps now... nicey nicey

how do they redrill them???? I would assume that once the car has holes drilled into it - you can't just "move" them.... did they just open up the holes larger?

does it make teh wheels harder to mount/ put onto the car because the holes are redrilled?

i have to admit - for 17" wheels - they look good. i think on darker cars, like lakeshore silver, or black, or carbon greay - the silver wheels, like those TL wheels or the stock silver 17" wheels look better in terms of hte COLOR... the aspec wheels have a chrome finish.even the ebony chrome ones are too shiny/chrome lookin and I don't care for it as much as the standard "silver" color...

nice to know they fit. how does the offset seem - do they fit the same or do they stick our more or less than the OEM wheels??? any side angle shots to see how they fit in teh wheel wells???

do you run spacers or not or are those just bolted right up to the car???

those wheels are DIRT cheap to buy online.. you can grab up wheel for like $175 each orsomething at some of the sites that redo wheels...

hmmm... they do look better than the OEM RL wheels...

How were the lug seats handled also? or did you switch to different lug nuts? Curious to know since I have never done this. I have seen special washers that convert from 5x120 to 5x114, but they are typically designed for acorn (60 degree cone) to acorn seats.

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys,

Well im not sure how they redrill them. I remember when I picked up the wheel the whole was wider with a black lug inserted which measured the 5x120.

I am running no spacers and they bolt up right onto the car. For anyone in the tristate area the name of the shop is RPM in queens. They charge 30$ a wheel and take a few hours to do them. I got info from this shop from Ron Jon wheels and this is the shop they use. The offset is probably lower than the RL stock wheels because they stick out a tiny bit more than stock.

175 each?

Umm visit the black market and you can pick up an entire set for 200$.

I am using the same lugnuts.

if redrilling is all that is needed to make TL wheels fit an RL.. then you would think TL-S wheels woudl fit, as that car also has a big brake kit up front like the RL...

Blazin - do the wheels fit right.. I mean no vibrations/etc.... if they can get the wheels to fit exactly centered with redrilling... sounds like not a bad way to suddenly have a LOT more wheels available as an option.. you just redrill them.

any upclose pics of your wheels from teh outside / while mounted so we get an idea how it would look once on the car? i mean..the lug holes don't look super huge or anythign weird like that do they???

you likin' the 17" cushy ride???

i'd love to see more shots of yoru car now .. with the 17" wheels.. to get an idea how it looks... this may be a route I would go.. 17" wheels with an H&R drop.. ride woudl probably still be pretty smooth... due to the 17" tires with a softer sidewall...
