Tire Pressure Sensors
My 'O6 RL is the first car I've owned with tire pressure sensors. So, two questions:
First, I plan on putting 4 proper winter tires on for the snowy months, should any tire shop be able to handle this or does the factory pressure monitoring system require some special steps/process that only the dealer can normally tackle?
Second, once my current Michelin allseasons are toast (probably about another year), I am considering going to 18 or 19 aftermarket wheels for the summer and keeping the OEM alloys for winter use. What are the issues with tire pressure sensors and aftermarket wheels? If the Acura sensors don't fit, are there aftermarket sensors available?

You can use OEM 17's for winters. If you have a lot of snow, consider a narrower, higher profile, alternate size, which has the added benefit of of being cheaper
TPMS is a fact of life now, a federal regulation, so most all aftermarket wheels can handle Acura and/or aftermarket sensors.
Acura RL TPMS system does not require any special dealer intervention, assuming the correct sensors are installed. Put on the new (or old) wheels with the correct sensors, drive for a mile or 2 and everything will be sync'ed up.

That's cool, thanks. I already scored a set of four barely used Winterforce radials in 225-55-17 off kijiji so I'm good to go.
So when I go with aftermarket wheels for the summer, I should be OK to use aftermarket sensors or do I have to get Acura ones?

You can use aftermarket sensors so long as they are compatible with the RL system. You should depend on your wheel vendor for some help here. Tire Rack, for example, will outfit you with the correct ones. I think at one point, Tire Rack said that Honda had six different types of TPMS sensors, so you have to know the exact application, which means ordering them from a reliable vendor, or getting them from an online Acura parts source...
