Tire help 2006 RL

I need some help deciding on new tires for my 06 RL, I am considering the continental DWS's and the Goodyear Triple tread's, the survey results are awsome but the reviews are mixxed especially for the goodyears. I sort of like the new Bridgestone 970as (I think)

I live in NYC where there are tons of pot holes so I need something with a decent sidewall cause the cheapy michellins I have now are notorious for bubbles. It seems to rain more and more and the snow seems to get deeper every year. I dont care too much for tread life (but it is semi important) as much as I do for noise and all weather traction.

Any suggestions? (245/50/17)

Which Michelins do you have on right now ? Are they the OEM MXM4s ? The MXM4s are no good. I switched out to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and they have been great for the last 35,000 miles. I will have another 5-10,000 on these before I get rid of them and they are probably only good for summer use now. But I do like them.

The TripleTred is a different animal from the other two, far less prowess in the dry handling department, but very good wet traction and would provide the most comfortable ride. They do tend to get a bit louder over time.

The DWS is going to be more susceptible to pothole damage as they have a bit of a soft sidewall. If you are going for a performance tire, the RE970AS is a great choice for dry and wet traction (just tested it the other week on our local roads and track). I have yet to drive it in snow, so that aspect is to be determined. Both the DWS and RE970AS are quiet for performance tires. The TripleTred is a different animal from the other two, far less prowess in the dry handling department, but very good wet traction and would provide the most comfortable ride. They do however tend to get a bit louder as the tire wears.

Toyo Versados Or Cont DWS.

If I lived up north and drove in the snow I may lean more to the DWS.
Just as a note, I've found that running the 50 PSI that the side wall calls for helps stiffen them up.

^^^ DAMN THAT'S HIGH!!!

Sonny, what size are you talking about? The 245/50/17 DWS I have now have so much sidewall I can't imagine dinging a wheel. Those are some beefy tires.

Stresst, I don't know about weather performance b/c it won't rain here, but the DWS are as soft as the factory installed Michelins, a touch quieter, and $90 or so cheaper. The amazing thing is they don't seem to get louder as you go faster. The sound at 20 MPH is about the same at 80 MPH, and not in a way like 20 MPH sounds like you're on the highway. In a very good, quiet way. Also, I have not read a bad review about them including some major weather testimonies. DWS are good tires , but I have only owned the factories and these. Oh, and the price is just icing on the cake.

Not sure, have to check later but I think that is what they are.

Anyone ever try the Hankook H727's? I really dont like Hankook but there survey results are top notch!

IDK, I recently bought the car off my father. 127K on the clock so who know's what he put on there. Probably the 4 set of tires! Maybe more! Will check later but either way they suck, the handle like crap in the rain, they squeel when im not even going the speed limit when im on and off ramps.

Thanks for the reply, the problem is I read a more then a few bad reviews on the tire rack. Survey results excellant but read the reviews. A few posts about the soft sidewalls, a few about rapid wear, and a few about them being unstable. IDK what to believe.

Not really referencing a specific size, just the tire in general.

I understand about "beefy sidewall" but what your referring to is what I call rim protection. I hear that the sidewalls are soft that the car rolls. Either way im probably going to buy them.

Isn't "rim protection" what you are looking for when it comes to pot holes? I'll take a pic if you want.
