Is there something I'm missing?
I have read numerous posts over the past months about people wondering how changing their wheels will change their ride height. I am not understanding this because of one simple (so I think) thought process.
If the tire diameter remains the same, how would the ride height change at all? The radius would have to remain the same which means the distance from the bore to the ground and bore to the wheel well would remain the same. Is there something I am missing, or is it everyone else that is confused?

You are not missing anything. The ride height does not change so long as you stay with the same diameter as stock..
245/50-17 = 245/45-18 = 245/40-19 = 245/35-20
245/50-17 = 245/45-18 = 245/40-19 = 245/35-20
