Proper Tire Pressure?

My tire pressure has been perfect ever since I
took delivery of my RL in July.

Now that we are upon the coldest day in the past
7 months, the tire pressure has suddenly sunk and
I am receiving a warning on my dash system.

Yeah, I could check the pressure notice probably located
on the door, but I am feeling sorta lazy today so I thought
I'd post instead.

What is the proper pressure setting for these tires?

My guess is 32.

Thanks

My door stickers say 32 psi front, 30 psi rear cold inflation pressure for both the 17's and the 18's. When I did my performance driving school, they recommended increasing the pressures from the recommended for optimal handling - so if you plan to show of the wonderful handling for friends (in a safe, controlled environment of course), I'd put 36-38 psi at least. For daily driving, I stick to the recommended pressures in summer but increase it by a pound or two when it starts to get cold.

Homdamore,

Thanks.

Just came back from the gas station where I put air in all
four tires. Pretty amazing that the RL so closely monitors
the tire pressure and warns you when it is low. Love that!

I was amazed to see how chinsy the airtube caps are. They
were on so tight I had to use pliars to give them an initial twist.
Using the pliars caused one of the caps to become slightly bent
and it has been difficult trying to shape it back to its original
roundness to screw back over the airtube.

Yeah, the caps look nice in their silver cover, but they certainly
are more difficult to remove and maintain over the rubber covers
I have had on previous cars.

Hey quick question...

Now that I am heading into cold season here in NJ....

How fast should I expect these tires to lose pressure in the cold?

I could ride all Summer without a single refill of air, but something
is telling me that the coldness is going to cause a loss in tire pressure
on a weekly basis.

Whadda you think?

This is funny....soemone like half a year ago took my valve covers. Why? I don't know but I thought it was pretty funny and whoever did it has some serious issues.

As for checking the pressure for the winter...I'd say check it every couple or so weeks.

I think that like many things, the air in your tires shrinks when it gets cold and balloons when it gets hot.

So even if the air in your tires is perfect today, as the temperature drops the air pressure will drop.

However, the air pressure measurement is supposed to be taken when cold. Normally that means when you car has sat all night and you have driven less than one mile.

So what pressure does everybody run and like. I am really curious. I check mine every week at least like I am on a nascar pit crew. I have tried.
1st FL 32 FR 32

RL32 RR32

2nd FL32 FR32

RL30 RR30

I cannot tell to much of a differance but with the stock tires they always look low on air to me for some reason.

Unlike so many others here, I'm not one to challenge the factory's attempt at balancing ride, handling, mileage, etc with tire selection and pressure. I'm thrilled with every aspect of the car (including tires) as it was delivered from the factory. As I've posted before, the TPMS has been running 2 psi lower than the actual pressure from my trusted, digital gauge. So, I've generally stuck with the recommended tires pressures from the door sticker. 32 fronts, 30 rears.

Thanks for your input. I was just curious. I noticed since the weather in Northern Va has dropped about 20 degrees so has my cold tire pressure. I guess I'll just keep the air at manufacturers suggestion. I do wonder why they recommend 30 in the rear though since it is awd. I would think it would be the same as the front 32. The tl calls for 32 all around and the six speed version to have 30 in the rear. I guess it has to do with load rating on the front verse the rear.

Ultra High Performance A/S Tire Pressure

For those who have left the OEM tires behind and gone to the Michelin Sport A/S or the Pirelli zero nero A/S (or similar such tires), are you using the 32 psi recommended tire pressure for the original tires or increasing the pressure commensurate with the increased maximum tire pressure for these tires?

The Sport A/S has a max of 51 psi and when mine were installed the professional installer inflated them to 36 psi. Even at that level they felt a bit soft to me so I increased it to 38 psi. What have others with these tires done and is there a "best" pressure to consider setting them at? Or is it just a subjective personal preference thing, as long as they are not obviously under or over inflated?

Watcgh you tread pattern. Too high of a pressure will wear out the center of tread rather quickly. The tire footprint starts to lift rather rapidly with higher inflation pressures. Particulalry in the summer at highway speeds.

Michelin Sport A/S in my RL:

34.5 Front
31.5 Rear

I don't know what the ideal pressures are.
