PAX System Wheel Width

I know that this will be of little interest to most RL owners, but….

Is it possible that the PAX System wheels are running 9.3 inches wide? I know that acuranews.com (http://hondanews.com/CatID3007?mid=2...asc&archives=t) from American Honda lists the RL PAX wheels as 18 x 8.

The Michelin spec sheet for the Pilot MXM4 shows the Acura specific 245-680R460A PAX MXM4 tires must be on a rim 9.3 inches to 10 inches wide, and implies that the only application for this size tire so far is Acura, which we know to be the RL.

Would Honda fit the PAX tires to rims 1.3 inches in width narrower than the recommended range?

If not, would the wider wheel width account for the apparent increased ride and handling comfort observed by several in test drives of the PAX vs non PAX tires (aside from the fact that the PAX wheels are 18.1 inches (460mm) in diameter, and presumably have a lower profile than the stock 245/50R17s, and overcome the all important psychological aspect of “must be better because it costs more”).

Is the implication that PAX wheels can easily be replaced by 9” wide standard wheels, assuming the stock offset is maintained?

Would the possible 9.3” wheel width (approximately 235mm) have anything to do with the different part numbers for rear springs and shocks on the PAX equipped cars vs those not so equipped?

I know I have gone off the deep end on this....

In that article, it says a spare tire comes with the cmbs/pax package for the 2007 model. Is this true? I would like to get one for my 06 pax.

Good pick up, the article is definitely changed In the now archived 2006 version of the same article, it says "Models equipped with the optional Technology Package will feature P245/680R 460A 102V Michelin PAX Run-flat tires. No spare tire is provided with the Technology Package."

I will be visiting the dealer tomorrow evening, and see if I can find an 07 ACC/CMBS/PAX car. I think that it is wrong.

You can still buy all the parts for a spare, the wheel, the tire, the spacer cone, wing nut, tool kit, tool kit tray. You have to remove the current storage tray that is in spare tire space. Of course you will be carrying around a bunch of extra weight. Theoretically, 4 PAX tires weighs the same as four conventional tires plus the spare and associated tools, and other hardware.

I priced out all of the parts necessary to put the "complete" spare in my PAX equipped car. It came out to about $507 from a dealer that discounts a bit. You also have to get lug nuts for the spare since the PAX wheel uses different ones.
