New Low Priced Tire @ Stock Size - Continental ExtremeContact DWS in 245/50ZR17

Browsing TireRack and saw this.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....andard%20Model

High Performance All Season
Traction AA
Treadware 540
Speed Rating Z

Not sure how long they've been out, but they are cheap ($146 each) and I searched forum for "Continental" in subject and only found one related post.

I did see them mentioned off hand in a tire thread from a week or three ago.

Pretty sure this is a "relatively new" option as I just put on Serenitys about six months ago and this tire in this size did not exist.

Tire Rack is back ordered. Another reason to suspect it's a new tire and they're just now gearing up the production/supply chain.

I was waiting on this tire to come back into stock. It's not a new tire in the sense that they were released at some point. Many people have tried them and have given great reviews around the Internet.

Tire Rack said optimistic guess, early summer availability.

Yes, I think it's more like "new in this size"

The tire itself has been around longer, but I think they just started making this size in the recent past.

I am planning to replace my OEM Michelins this summer, and these have been on my radar. I am drawn more to smooth and quiet with good wet traction. At limits handling is not in my pricepoint.

I had almost settled on the BS Serenity as the price was favorable over the Michelin Pilot Sports (as well as a better warranty). But I see these Continentals have nearly better and some better ratings, and a lower price point still. Very worth it if the price is not jacked when them become available again.

phishfood.....do you mind sharing you experience with the Serenity? Again my focus is smooth, quiet and wet traction....all seriously failing with my OEM MXM4s.

So far two were replaced about four months ago after Hunter RFB (at Acura dealer) for being out of round.

Getting ready to replace two more that dealer says won't balance now. Not the two replacements, but two of the original four.

All original four were made same date code, so it may have been I got a bad batch, or shipping incident (maybe they were the ones on the bottom of the stack?)

I can say in 20+ years of driving I've never took out four tires in short order from sucky driving so I don't think it's me.

Keep in mind though you don't see this complaint a lot. I think it's more of "got unlucky" than the tires.

They are quiet though. Wet traction seems fine, better than the Dunlops on the Accord.

Thanks phishfood. I will take that into consideration. The Continentals are certainly enticing for the price and the ratings / reviews....it may be worth the wait.

Hi TampaRL,

I'm in the same boat as you - I had my mind set on the BS Serenity and then saw the Conti DWS which I've only heard good things about so far and now I'm torn. My understanding of the main difference between the two tires is that Serenity handles slightly better for spirited driving.

A few of the reviews on TR for the Conti's say "mushy sidewall"

Then again no matter what the tire is there's always someone or set saying something

nice .. $628 shipped .. this is a good deal.

I've yet to experience the true RL ride .. I need "smooth" and the OEMs don't provide that.
I'm convinced it's my tires causing bumps and vibrations over 75 mph

TireRack is showing them available as of 4/29,,,,and there appears to be no price jump.

Also the BS Serenity are $100 off / 4 tires.....

hmmmmmmmm......

As of May 1, Tirerack is showing "fewer than 2" Conti DWS's in stock. Fewer than 2, so that means 1 tire?

These must be some serious tires. At least my existing ones are still good for a few thousand more miles.
