Cool NEED HELP ON TIRES For 2005 RL 245/50R17 HELP

Hi All,

It time for my 05 RL to get a new set of tires. The OEM Michellin Spot is just to costly for me right now. Also, see alot of bad review regarding about road noise. But now i see alot of good review on Falken 912 and handling and road noise over Michellin. Falkin only have 245/45R17 NOT 50.

Can someone please help on decide a new tires for my car. I live is Los Angeles so majority is HEAT, hardly rain. But prefer All season tires, smotth, NO road noise as posible and performing.

Please let me know.

Also, will Falkin 245/45R17 will look good on 05 RL with 17 OEM Rim? How's much will the GAP between tire and fender will be?

Please help...

Thanks inadvance........

I got a quote from my local Tires Shop for a set of 4 Falken 912 which including balance, aligment and mounting for $460 out the door. What's do you think on the price
?

If you search at Tire Rack, Discount Tire, etc... you really should look at "summer tires": they're designed for RAIN, just not snow. Sound like Los Angeles to you?

Like you were gonna put chains on her and drive to Big Bear or Mammoth anyway, right?

I just replaced the tires on my RL with a set of Dunlop SP5000 ASs. There are "ultra high performance all season" tires; here in Reno, we do get snow and ice.

Haven't had a chance to test the all weather part yet, but I'm very impressed with the low road noise and dry road performance.

They are much more expensive than your Falkens, however, at about $1100 installed.

I just bought Bridgestone Turanza Serenty's, they are new for the RL. Much cheaper than the Michellin's, longer tread wear and a nice sidewall for protecting the rims. Only 4,000 miles but I do like them!! The current issue of Consumer Digest rates them #1.

Glad to hear it. I actually just ordered the serenity's today, but they are on back-order. Replacing my Michelins after 49k miles. Not much choice on tires w/the stock rims. Michelins are overpriced...was also looking at the toyo versado LX, but also not easy to find. The pirellis offered in the RL tire size are over 300/tire and I've heard that they aren't worth it.

I have a new set of toyo versado LX. Research suggests that they are very quiet! Will find out soon.

pilot A/S not available on Tirerack any longer, TRy onlinetires.com , for the Versado or Dunlop. Not many choices in the correct size. I replaced my Pilot A/S with another set last week, before they were discontinued.

Well we haven't had them that long, maybe 3000 miles or so. During the Fall, they were fine. Good grip in wet and dry conditions and very quiet. All most impossible to get them to spin or squel.

However, I don't think they are too good in deep snow, slush and ice during the winter months. Hence why I order some winter tires.

go for the Pilot A/S if you can find them, I replaced my first set after 36k and they are great in the Cleveland snow and Ice. Break traction is excellent as I had to slow quickly today as the SUV in the express lanes next to me lost it, spun out, hit the wall and crossed over in front of me on 271. They are quiet and overall a great tire.

I've got about 80 miles on a new set of Pilot Sport A/S and I'm very surprised at how much better the car feels over the OEM Michelins. Got mine at Costco who had them even though the online store hasn't shown them for months.

Just had the Turanza Serenties put on today, replacing the OEM Michelins after 50k. What a difference. Car rides so much quieter and smoother and it handles a lot better. Going over bumps hardly seemed like anything.

Of note, the installer broke one of the TPMS sensors and it had to be replaced. I would recommend you specifically tell the installer to leave the valve stems alone, you want to keep the ones you have...if it ain't broke don't fix it. Cost me an extra $50 to replace the sensor...I would have argued that it was their fault they broke it, but I had it installed at a friend's shop and got a great deal on the tires. He did discount the sensor down from $129 to basically cost.
